Hi, I have tried to read though some of the softmod totorals, but have gotten lost. I just bought a used xbox and a new 160gb hard drive.

Im a little lost if it is possible to put the harddrive into the xbox and play games on it by softmodding it, without adding a chip? I also do not have these other games like splinter cell ect. that everyone seems to talk about. Is there a way I can just use my xbox and new harddrive for games that I will rent from Blockbuster and store on the harddrive? I do not want to do anythign fancy. If someone can help me out I would really apprachiate it. Thanks.

Hi Gooseguy and welcome to HQ.

Really all you need to do is firstly softmod your xbox with the retail hdd still installed.

THen you have to backup the eeprom and hdd keys etc etc so you can setup your new hdd in a pc using other tools.. Smile

Heres a tutorial which will help you upgrade your hdd after your install a softmod on your normal xbox hdd..:

Install Larger Hard-Drive into SoftModded Xbox:

Heres the tutorial to follow on how to get your xbox softmodded first..
Hope this helps.

Microsoft would never allow another hard drive in an Xbox if they had their way. The only way to do it is to either put a chip in or softmod the box, otherwise you have 8 gigs and no way to store the games on the HDD. The games mentioned can be rented to use the files needed in order to softmod by the way but be sure they are the original games.

HAHA! I must have been filling in my answer at the same time you were forahobby. Your answer is better looking though. Razz

no not with a laptop as you need to use your pc to format/partition the new hdd.. And i doubt your laptop will work with a normal large hdd (not laptop).
