I used this:
http://myxboxmodding.tripod.com/id1.html
to install my softmod. So I never used, nor do have a memory card. The hotswap method worked just fine. I now have a CD in which I can use to create a new drive (I did install a 40 gig drive). Its been working fine for some time now.
Recently, I discovered AID(Seems lke it was the release just before 2.11) - GREAT STUFF. Also, I searched the internet for a way to get XBMC as my default dash, and after some work, I was successful. Not even sure exactly what I did, but it seems like I now have 2 copies of XBMC installed...
Well, now things seems a little...not right. So I would like to clean it up. I was wondering if I can use SID on an already softmodded box. Sounds like SID would be a better way to go and work better with AID.
I do play a couple games, but my main goal is XBMC to stream content from my network.
Any advice, recomended reading, warnings, etc... are appreciated
Thanks

this is definately a topic for pirrup, sjohn, Dangermouse, djb or some of the other softmod experts..
Personally i would use SID3 to reinstall the softmod again as it formats the C:\ drive and removes anything previously there.. So really yes you could but i would prefer you get a answer from one of our softmod admins too..
Then you could choose to install any dashboard you wanted using AID (softmod section) and it will work fine..
ill email a few of the admins now to see if they have time to reply.
Thanks!
I appreciate your help. I decided to give it a go. Why not?
So I backed up everything through FTP. I then restored to my initial softmod from my XBHD disk by copying over the c and e files. Then, I popped in AID v2.11 Final and looked around the Softmod Section. I instaled Nkpatcher + MS Dash. This informed me it would erase everything on the C drive...thats kool. When it finished, I went to Install DashBoards and installed XBMC on C drive. After reboot, it booted into XBMC. Kool.
But now, no FTP...no network at all. I tried a couple other dashboards and the PBL softmod. I was finally able to get Avelaunch to recognize my DHCP and I can get FTP again. I'm going to play aroun with a few more things to see if I can figure it out.
However, something else funky is going on. I have never had trouble with the AID disk before. But now, since I installed the softmod from the disk, AID seems to loop a start up. The main menu will show for a split sec, then black screen....Then the menu, then black. At first this happened a couple times before it finalyl started. The last time I tried it it took about 2 min of this before it finally started...

Thats ok.. YOu will have to go and switch the dashboard settings over to dhcp or set a static ip address. AIDELUXE and SID use a static ip of 192.168.0.2 for the xbox.. So you will have to change for your network..
Apart from that you should be sweet.. Just remember too you can always choose RESTORE FROM M$ Backup to revert back to how your xbox was originally.
hope you get it all sorted.. Sounds like your nearly there.
Just keep following all the tutorials on HQ
Yeah, I got a better idea what to do now. I will check back after a bit. I did change the network setting in XBMC, but no go. Not sure whats going on there. But thank you for all the help...

Well, I messed things up pretty good playing around with FTP. Deleted things I should not have, etc...
No worries. I recreated a fresh Drive with my boot CD. Then fired up AID. I then used AID to reformat and prepare my drive, so it was completly clean - the AID way. Then used the Softmod section to build an XBMC boot.
Network now works fine. Everything now seems fine. It will now be much easier to configure my box using AID. Thanks, its awesome.
Movie trailers don't seem to work through XBMC, but I am guessing thats an XBMC thing. Will do som searching...
