Ok. I give up.
I have tried to connect my laptop to my softmod xbox I installed Evox
and have been able to go to the proper screens to toggle between the launch dvd, games on hdd, etc. Now I'm trying to install apps like DVD2XBOX and XBMC. I have read alot of the forums about the FTP and I may be just stupid but I still can't figure it out.
I am using Flashfxp because I heard that this on is the easiest. So here are my dumb questions.
1)To hook the laptop up to the xbox the transfer files I just run the ethernet cable from my laptop to the back of the xbox right?
2)In the easiest step by step way can someone tell me how to set up the ftp to xbox line.
I am running Flashfxp 3.2.0 build 1080
Can someone please explain to me how to do this
thanks in advance

A crossover is totally different from a normal network patch lead which you use with a router/hub/switch etc etc
If you have a router just use a normal network patch lead like you have to connect your xbox --->> ROUTER/HUB and then to your PC/LAPTOP
If you want to connect directly from LAPTOP ---> XBOX you must go and buy whats called a crossover network cable. The ends on the network cable are totally opposite.
anyway, you can get them from any normal computer place or networking place.

I do have a wireless route. I will go and get a cable that you suggest. hopefully this will work. If not look forward to some more questions.
I have connected straight from the router into the xbox and I do get a ip address showing that it is connected but through flashfxp program I can't get it to connect. If I get the crossover network cable it will be easier right?
Anyway I'll post a little later with a big thanks or some more stupid questions

Ok I got a crossover network cable and I still am not able to get the flashfxp to work.
If I unplug the cable from the xbox the laptop notices it so I know there's a connection.
I open FlashFXP and the left side shows my computer fofders and right side is blank. I click the Session button and then Quick Connect. In the new window I enter my xbox ip address (192.168.0.200). Enter Xbox into the username and password. The Port is default at 21 and remote path is left blank then hit connect.
Down below it shows that it is connecting to 192.138.0.200 then shows Connection fails connection timed out. It will repeat it over and over
What am I doing wrong now?

You are not doing anything wrong..
Just take your time.. Since you have never done it before it will take a little while to get it.. After that youll be fine.
ok.. Turn off FIREWALLS
then do this:
1. Click Start Menu and choose Run
2. Type 'cmd' and press eneter
3. now type 'ping 192.168.0.200' and press enter
your should get a reply from your xbox just like this:
Quote:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ping 192.168.0.200
Pinging 192.168.0.200 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.0.200: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.200: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.200: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.200: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

IF YOU GET A REPLY THEN YOU KNOW ITS JUST A FIREWALL OR SECURITY PROBLEM.
IF YOU GET NO REPLY THEN YOU KNOW YOUR NETWORK ISNT WORKING..
