I am a noob and want to leave here some tips so that you wont make the same mistakes i did.
I softmoded my xbox using the Mechassault Save exploit, a memory unit, and the Auto Installer Deluxe 2.02 DVD.
My first mistake was to softmod without reading very well the tutorials, result - error 13 and a some white hairs.
I used a Memory unit because a friend of mine already had a softmoded xbox and i copyed the Mech save from his xbox to the memory unit. If you cant to this then you wil have to make a xbox to USB female cable using the gamepad cable (the are toturials, search) and finding a compatible USB flash pen and USBVIEW.
A critical point is when you already have a working linux dash and you start messing arount to install diferent dashes and apps... because you may accidentaly fok up the working dash.
This is what happened to me, error 13, xbox will only run original games, no microsoft menu, no Autoinstaller boot DVD, no backup games, no nothing... the only sollution i found was pirrups HOTSWAP tut.
You may avoid the hotsawp if you leave a copy of the Mechassault save exploit in the HD(after messing around with dashboards, apps and before rebooting the xbox), because Mechassault cant load directly a save from the memory unit, and since you have no dashboards running(errors 13 and 16) you have no way to copy the save to the HD...

This can't be stated enough! Almost everyone rushes into softmods because it's so easy and cheap. However it is also easy to screw up. People need to make sure they know everything about their box and have the steps memorized backwards and forwards. When it comes to softmodding, CORNERS CANNOT BE CUT!!!
