Ok, first time post here, and I need a little bit o help
Well, first off about two weeks ago my xbox toke a dump- the hard drive died on me. Don't have a back up cd ether.
My nexy step was the purchase of a spiderchip 1.1 and a used HDD from an xbox off of ebay....
Received both items, installed them physically correct and flashed my chip with the evox plus 8 bios. And thats about as far as I got apperntly my HDD has no M$(or any) dash on it and it won't work. When I purchased the HDD the description read that it was ready to install and had "retail files" on it. Ehter my hard drive is shot or doesn't have the files on it at all. I hooked it up to a computer and my computer couldn't read it. I dont know if that means its no good or the computer can't read the xbox files that are supposed to be on there.
So all in all Im wondering if I got a new xbox HDD from an xbox with original files and drop it in it should work right(if unlocked)? And will I be able to lock my HDD with Evox????
Just a side question: What software do you use to make "back-up" games? Or how do you make them? Any help...thanks

Hey welcome to the site, lets see how I can try and help you.
First off, did you flash your chip with a hacked bios? This is the first step to do after installing the chip. Secondly, are you recieving any type of error message on the tv screen? If so what number is in the corner of the screen? Thirdly, I suggest going to www.aideluxe.com and downloading AutoInstaller Deluxe, this will greatly help you install everything that you will possibly need for the xbox. Including the MS Dash, and also several Homebrew Dashes.
A computer won't be able to just read the xbox hard drive, you'd have to boot into a special version of linux in order to read the files on there, like I said before, before the xbox will even read it, you'll have to have a bios on the chip. With the AID disk, you would be able to buy any hard drive and be able to just drop it in the box, boot the disk, and make that into a xbox hard drive. So no need to buy a "xbox hard drive".
The software you use is dvd2xbox or pxhdd loader, I prefer the first one personally all of this and more is on AID.
Again thanks for joining the site, I'm sure you'll love the community. _________________

Thanks for the advice that you've given so far.
Well..Hacked bios...I'm not really sure. I thought it all was hacked. When it was downloaded I do not remeber seeing hacked in the name or anything. It just said "evolution X+ 8". And yes I was getting error messages. First off when I just dropped it in I got error code 16. Then with the help of another xbox I set the internal clock and then I got error code 13. That was with the chip on and if I had it off it was ether error code 7 or 6 maybe both.

non hacked bios would be M$ or.. i forget what the other bios is, but evox is definetly a hacked bios you should be able to just turn your Xbox on with AID in the dvddrive and format and install a dashboard (and any other goodies like emu's)

Do it with the modchip on. The modchip is the device that doesn't care if a hdd is not locked. The retail m$ bios requires a hdd to be locked to the motherboard. That's why you a getting the errors. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

I started it up and I can't figure it out. For the select AID ISO FILE I do not know what ISO file to select. I looked in the same folder that the actuall AID progam is in and I couldn't find it. Also, I dont know what RAR file (update file) to use.
Im getting so POed with this xbox. Any help thanks
