Im new to this scene, but i need some advice, ive modded my xbox a year ago with a x3,ive locked my 200gig harddrive to my xbox, ive no backup eeprom or unlock code,as i did not obtain this back up info,in short my motherboard is blown, everything else is fine,i understand the only way i can unlock this harddrive is by transfering my eeprom chip to a new board, but could i also low level format the drive and replace in a new upgraded xbox,or could i only use harddrive in a pc now, thanx

I don't think you can even use that hard drive in a PC (and you can't transfer it to another xbox and expect it to unlock it either). You pretty much effectively just created a pretty expensive door stop. That is sort of the point of the IDE locking secutity feature. Make a back up of your eeprom.bin and keep it SAFE somewhere, so at least you can unlock an expensive drive if you need to later.
Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong on ability to unlock the IDE with a format (I'm sure someone at the drive manufacturer has a way to back door force unlock it, but I'm not aware of any programs...even at the expense of the data).
Regards,

Having just posted that, I figured I'd do a little research on my TIVO hacking sites I frequent (since they also have some units that lock the drives to the unit). As it turns out, there might be a way to force unlock a maxtor drive (not sure if it works on other drives or not).
Also, I think QUNLOCK.EXE might work. I'm uploading both to the VIP Downloads as well.
Can someone let me know if they work for you? I'll give it a try next time I'm on a PC with a locked 8GB drive too.
Regards,

If you used configmajic to lock the hdd then you can use their key Teammassembly or something.

Thanks for the quick reply, ive tryed you first link to the tivo unlock DiskUtil, followed the instructions and it says drive error this is not locked, the thing is if the drive was locked, in the maxblast utility from maxtor it reads the drive capacity at 204GB,If the drive was locked it would not read past 0mb,so maybe it was never locked, never went on live, also when i tried to low level format with maxllf,it reads the whole capacity, but gives a error of "ERROR BIT SET 51h Error register:4h-maybe harddrive controller has been buggered as the motherboard went down???thanks for your quick reply guys

I don't think the last guy posting in there about being able to unlock a drive locked with X3 Live with TEAMASSEMBLY master pwd knows what he is talking about. That should only work with a drive locked with ConfigMagic. Unless TeamXecutor has started using ConfigMagic locking in their BIOS...grin. wouldn't that be funny. Even funnier if TeamAssembly knew nothing about it...
But, it does bring up a good point. If you MUST run a locked drive (to boot a chipped box with the mod-chip disabled, or whatever), it might be a good idea to lock it with the ConfigMagic, and not a normal lock, since at least you always have a backdoor/master pwd.

I locked a large drive about a year ago and BestBuy had a Manufacturer's 'Technicians boot disc' that preformed a security erase, which then allows the drive to be unlocked automatically. If you dont have a Best buy just go to a computer repair shop, they should have access to these discs. _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic
