I just bought a $40 dollar "broken" xbox that the seller says "won't boot" (the only reason I bought it is because I need a project and it came with a working wireless controller). I'm wondering if anyone has a checklist of some sort that I can use to diagnose what went bad in the box.I'm pretty good with computers so I'm thinking I'd be able to handle it.

By the way, assuming the problem is the PSU, would a normal PC PSU work with the xbox? I have a couple laying around at home.

Thanks

Hi lwnexgen,

Well firstly you would need to give us some info on what its doing..
- Does the xbox turn on?
- Does the Xbox Display on the TV
- Does it show a error code

etc etc.

just try and give as much info as you can.

I would just suggest buying a replacement power supply for a xbox..

Sorry, I was just looking for a checkdown sheet before hand, (I haven't gotten the box yet) but it'll probably come tomorrow so I'll have to control my excitement until then. And as for the PSU, I was just curious if a normal one would work (just for testing purposes so I wouldn't have to buy a new xbox PSU if the one it had worked OK)

Alright, the xbox came on monday and I'm pretty confident that the PSU just died, mainly because no lights come on and it really doesn't seem to be getting any power. No boot screen, no nothing. However, I really don't know if anything inside was messed with, it looks like the previous owner opened it up but I haven't had a chance to look inside yet.
