Okay, So I researched softmods fairly extensively and now I'm in the process of doing one myself. I went to a friend of a friend's house to get the savegame off his xbox because I can't find an action replay for xbox in my area. I got the savegame and even successfully softmodded my friend's xbox for him (i tested it with a game and everything.)
I then brought home that memory card and tried it on mine. I'm using the Mechassault method and so I got into the "run linux" part of the tutorial and everything was fine. I made an MS backup and a Mod backup (i've tried it without making the mod backup since - no dice) And then when I go to install softmod it errors out during the first few seconds saying the following:

BEGIN extracting E........\files\apps.rar
Unrar failed "E:\apps\dvd2xbox\acl" error code : 0
END unrar operation

So I'm stuck here and I dont know how to fix it. Any help is appreciated. I'm not sure of the relevance but my xbox is significantly older than my friends, his is a 2004 and i got mine in 2001 or so i believe (as soon as it came out) Any help is appreciated!

ive just sent a email to our softmod admins to see if they have any suggestions.. That is weird that it works fine on the other xboxes and not yours.. Do you have a modchip installed or something?

Give as much info as you can and the boys here will do their best to help im sure.

Hey firstly I'd like to thank you for the prompy reply! I really appreciate it - I'd like to get it modded asap Smile

But i have no other mod installed, soft or hard. I've got a friends xbox live account on there and a bunch of savegames, otherwise never done anything out of the ordinary with it. If any other info is needed please let me know!

hm, if it's only installing dvd2xbox the main thing is your softmod should be fine, as I"m pretty sure the install apps is a different part of the program.

Just use AID 2.11 final to install your apps and you shouldn't have a problem.

Probably a good idea, but I've tried that. Firstly I tried simply ejecting the tray using the eject tray option in the SID screen. When you try to open the tray it just restarts the xbox (i remember reading that it would somewhere, so that can't be a problem, after i installed the dash on my friend's xbox it didnt do that) so then i tried turning off the xbox, then ejecting and letting it launch straight from the cd without going through the SID dashboard. I get this black screen with green letters telling me my xbox needs service. I have AID 2.11 and used it on my friend's - but im not having it the same way on mine.

Another thing I noticed was that after i TRIED to install the softmod i tried installing EvoX and i got the same error as soon as it tried to unrar something. Maybe my xbox doesnt know how to unrar or something?

Another development! I've been reading non-stop all the other posts in this forum in case i overlooked something before I posted this and after a day's worth i found one where a guy fixed his problem by manually ftp-ing the necessary files over to his xbox. I got an ftp working to my xbox i just need to knwo if
A)is this a solution to the problem?
B)if so, what files do i transfer over?

If you can FTP a copy of the SID 3.0, that may work, but I had the EXACT same problem as you are having on my XBox 1.0, until I completely deleted everything on the C:\ (since I had backed up the MSDash) except the SID directory, and I HAD to use SID 3.0 (that comes with AID 2.11 Final). I tried SID 2.0, and that is the one with the problems on mine. If you use SID 3.0, and delete all files on C:\ (except the SID directory), then apply the Softmod patch and then install a dash board, you should be fine. Also, then with the AID 2.11 Final, you can reinstall MSDash 5960, so don't worry.

Hope that helps.

To me, it sounds like the method of game save transfering is corrupting the save somewhat. I would try unzipping the SID package, and uploading it via ftp. you should notice that there's a udata folder inside the SID zip file. Just transfer this folder to the e:\ drive and overwrite anything it asks you about, then try to reapply the softmod and install the dash.

Also I may have not read properly but did you try both evox and unleashx? or just evox? If only one, try the other, but I'd first try ftping the contents of the zip file to make sure nothing got corrupted.

I'm having the exact same problem here.
Here's some of the info from my xbox:

Version: V1.0 (0a)
Kernel: 1.0.4034.1
Hardware: Flags:1 GPU: 163 MCP: 178

I've tried the instructions here, including manually installing the mod files via FTP, to no avail. When I reboot without a disc, I only get the multilingual "xbox hosed" screen.

If you need any more info, let me know.
