Hey i just started researching all about this and i am pretty close to getting what i need to know to actually softmod my xbox. I understand mostly how to do all the steps to install the softmod and the new hd that i have but im a little worried about a few things.
im going to be using
-Xbox v1.1 (fairly sure)
-Action Replay
-Splinter Cell (could get the others)
-Official Xbox memory card
-Auto Installer Deluxe 2.11 and Softmod Installer Deluxe v3
before i start , my goal is to have a softmoded xbox (obviously) with evolutionx and evox m8 bios (dunno if i can do that) but i want to use a 200gig harddrive if possible.
1. I have a version 1.1 i think ( havnt opened up my xbox but used serial code thing and its from jan 2003 so i would think it was 1.1) and i guess i have to update my MS Dash before i do the actual softmod? or can i wait and do that once i softmod and stick Auto Installer Deluxe v2.11 in?
2. Once all of the save game stuff has been dealt with and im at the UnleashX control panel or w/e version 3 SID uses i was wondering if the exact steps were to
a) create MS backup (save my old dash file to e: )
b) create mod backup (save my eeprom to e: )
c) install softmod
d) restart
e) exchange (insert game with exploit) with auto installer deluxe
f) install a better bios ? (Evox M8 Plus v1.6 stealth 137gb+ ??)
i guess the real question is: is a bios being installed with
"install softmod" and if so can i update this to a better/newer
one like the one above or is there a limited choice i have
because it is not a "modchip bios chip" that im programming
the bios to but the official xbox bios chip?
g) (after the bios is dealt with) install evolution X dashboard
h) ftp all the contents of c: and e: from the 8 gig to my comp
and stick it in the folder with that iso maker program that
comes with auto installer deluxe. as well as the eeprom file.
i) burn it with one of the programs they say to use.
j) unplug my hd -> plug new one in(set to single master)
boot from cdrom-> follow instructions ... blah blah...
k) plug finished hd back into xbox
l) maybe restart? and then install emulators/media stuff/ftp/etc..
m) start playing SNES emulator.
3. my answer to this might come from 2 but if not, i was wondering if
i am going to have to set up my 200g hd a seperate way ( with an f:
partition i have heard?) and in this case which program should i use
and maybe tell me briefly some steps involved?
i can program in c++/c and have a fairly decent knowledge of this kind
of stuff as well as how to reformat my computer and fdisk etc.. so feel free to use that sort of language.
Thank you for reading this.
PS. im not actually sure if the bios and dash i said were actually any
good ( i heard slayer evox is good?) im a newb at dashes and which
bioses are good so if you think the ones i put are crap please tell me
which ones would be a better choice. thanks.

Hi mr_plachinco,
I seriously dont think you are going to have any issues..
You are now a member on one of the most friendliest xbox sites around.. Xbox-Hq.. heheh lol
Basically you just need to follow a tutorial which was written by others who have successfully modded their xbox. Most are members directly on this site and can be approached for help..
Just remember you need to get your xbox softmodded with the original XBOX HDD so you can backup the EEPROM info etc etc.. Then you can then install or upgrad to a larger hdd..
One thing at a time so lets get your xbox softmodding..
Your steps look very good, looks like you did a little bit of reading Yours step "b" need to be moved down a few notches though. You make a backup of the softmod once the hdd is modded, not before. Evox M8 is for chipped boxes, softmodded boxes uses the m$ bios. Once in AID you can choose the Evox dash. Don't forget to make a backup of the eeprom and game saves (if you have them) to your pc before you swap out the hdd's. You'll need the eeprom to lock the new hdd. Be sure NOT to unlock the retail hdd. Like FH said, looks like you have a handle on things. Your mod should go smoothly. Good Luck
