No but static electricity can destroy the chip ironically, thats how easy it is. Apperentaly they fail more than you think, theres a tutorial on it. And honestly pinging the xbox will be a waste of time if the xbox says theres no link, and the computer cant even detect it. _________________

Ok but at least he should see that he has limited or no connection on the status icon, but if it shows connection established then it is not hardware, it software, ie firewall, incorrect ip settings, i thought to start over and build a logical diagram
if then else
if connection
then ping to verify 2 way connection
else check hardware
that out of the way he can continue to troubleshoot it knowing that it is software not hardware.
This will take a whole 1 minute at best.
without this info were just spinin our wheels

Ping your Box just like chiribomb said, Run a command prompt, type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.x" where "x" is your box ip. it should send 4 packets and recieve them back. Should run quickly and message a response if you have a clean path. The easiest way I found to ftp w/ evox is plug your crossover cable into your xbox BEFORE you start it up. Switch to a skin that will disply your IP. If you see your IP, then your on the right track. Now, leave evox in the main menu screen and don't start any applications.....this will kill the connection it just made. Then start your ftp application on your computer. I have never tried ftping from ava or xbmc, but ftping from evox worked fine for me.

cyber86 did you read my post about pinging the xbox.
IF you are not activily sending requests to the xbox you will not see the green light, just because you plug in a cable it will not do anything.
Look at the status of the local area connection, it should be a little icon at the bottom right of the screen that look like two little computers, when you put your mouse pointer on it should say:
Local area connection
Speed:100.0 Mps
Status: Connected
this will show that both boxes are linked then ping it in the command prompt window, until you do this you are getting off track, do not worry about the xbox nic, they rarely fail and it is more than likely the cable pins.
Until you do this you are just agonizing over something that may not be the problem.
we understand this step but until his xbox nic card is funtioning then u cannot even get to this step..... what is their to ping if theirs no connection in the first place? meaing hes gonna try what works for me and after he gets green he should get a quick status that looks similir to yours.. _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

@chiribomb
Well I think I tried what you suggested, but I'm perfectly willing to give it another go. Would you mind reposting the exact settings I should type into the xbox and the PC? Thank you!

turn on the xbox and load the evox dash, by default the ip should be set to
192.168.0.3
subnet 255.255.255.0
your pc should be set to 192.168.0.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.0.3
on the pc in the command prompt window type
ipconfig
it should respond with
ip 192.168.0.2
255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.3
dns server 192.168.0.3
if it say anything else,
then you have not configured the local area connection!
let me know and I will help out.
if the info was correct then type in
ping 192.168.0.3
It should respond
pinging 192.168.0.3 with 32 bytes of data:
reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes =32 time<1ms TTL=32
reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes =32 time<1ms TTL=32
reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes =32 time<1ms TTL=32
reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes =32 time<1ms TTL=32
Ping statictics for 192.168.0.3:
packets sent=4 packets recieved=4 Lost=0
If you get this response then all hardware is working correctly!javascript:emoticon('')
