Hi, I need to know if it is ok to use a normal 120gig Seagate HDD 8MB Cache.
Does it have to be lockable/unlockable for the AID2 to boot/work?
That 8gig hdd that comes with the XboX is too small, and im planing to upgrade it with the 120gig.
I just want to know for sure that if any HDD can work with the XBOX.
-
Also what does the AID 2.11 Final contain?
Any roms/emulators etc?
PS. I'll have to get AID2.11 and sometime tonight I'll see how things go.
But I'd like to know if any HDD esp the one that I have will work before I get into it.
Thanks

AID has nothing to do if your hdd is locked or not.
what defines this is the way your xbox is modded.
is it chipped?
is it softmodded?
if it's chipped, yes, you can lock drive with AID, format it, etc Install dashes, blah blah blah.
if your softmodded, yes you can but you'll have to do more work, you can't just pop the hdd and expect it to work. "eeprom"<<< is your keyword.

I don't think you understood my question..?
Just to make things clear, which I have forgotten to mention is Yes this Xbox is modded with a chip, etc, etc... Has been for over a year now.. Ive got a spare 120GB 8MB Seagate HDD that I want to replace the old 8gig default that came with the XBOX...
Ok, I hope you understand what I'm asking...
Can any HDD be used in an XBOX?
Does it have to be able to LOCK? Or it doesn't matter...?

softmod requires a locking hard drive
modchip, does not require a locking hdd unless you are planning on using Xbox Live

Ahh yup, I remember now when I was getting the XboX modded the guy told me if you went to play online your HDD would get deleted so you have to lock it.
Ok Great.
Looks like I'll be getting AID2 and see how I go.
While im downloading it, Im reading through DJB's Manual, btw great manual!.
If I get stuck somwhere, i'll let you guys know.
Thanks for answering my question funky.

you can check to see if your hdd is lockable by either trying the database on this site and if its not there there is one that is a tad bit bigger which you can do a search on google for "xbox hard drive compatibility" and the site should come up and search in there and it will tell you if it is lockable or not...good luck. _________________ Xbox V1.6

Ok, I'll search for that.
EDIT: Great, found it and the 120gig is lockable!
Excellent.
If only this download would go faster than a few kb's
Hope everything goes well.
Im putting in the 120gig in the Xbox as we speak.
EDIT: Ok, once I get AID 2.11 Final... is that all that I need?
I don't have to flash my Bios etc? Does AID have to flash the BIOS?
The modchip is an Xecuter 2. That's what I see when I turn on the Xbox.
Dasboard is Evolution X.
Can't wait to get AID installed.

You can use the same bios. Only hdd larger than 137gigs need a different bios. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

Ok guys, Ive downloaded AID and followed DJB's manual on how to get it going.
I added a 1gig dummy file to the ISO, then burnt the modified ISO using DVD Decrypt.
Turned on the Xbox and inserted the DVD-R. Turned off the XBOX and turned it back on so that it boots off the DVD-R.
It doesn't boot from it, it goes straight to the HDD... But the HDD is blank, and I get an ERROR message saying Error 16.
What do I do guys?

Do we still need the dummy file? I thought that was for a bios and not AID. Has it been that long since I did my last mod? You should be able to simply unrar the AID file, then burn it to disk and run it. Be sure to burn at the slowest speed you can go. I use Nero for burning ISO's. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Yup, unrared the AID, then burned it with DVD-Decryter with a different Media this time and without a Dummy file.
I used a CD-RW and burned the ISO. at 2x speed again, put in the CD in the XBOX restarted it and again it wouldn't boot. Goes back to the HDD and giving me that Error 16.
Any ideas?

16 - dashboard - Clock cannot be set.
Basically it comes down to this. Error 16 has to do with not finding the menu setting with which you can set the clock of the hdd. This happens to a lot of people that erase their hdd (original/upgraded) or MS dashboard files and after that they don't immediatly install the hdd but leave the xbox without power longer than 5 hours.
It's all about the hdd can't find the menu with which it can set the clock. This is mostly because the xbox hdd is empty (you removed dashboard or fux0red it via ftp). The problem arises when xbox searches for menu to set clock with, can't find it and voila: error 16. Well read on please!
So you have an error 16 huh? Don't worry "nothing" is broken!
You have an xbox hdd that is locked. And normally you can boot in original and modded mode. Retail or upgraded doesn't matter. You start playing around with xboxdash.xbe etc. using ftp programs. While doing this you "accidently" remove your MS dashboard and also your alternate dashboard (Evox, etc.) so there is no dash anymore on the xbox hdd.
YOUR SOLUTION IS:
Use your Chip Features to unlock drive.
Take xboxhdm_1.9 put retail MS Dash files build a disc.
use your pc, and put that hdd to primary master IDE 1, on the pc
with no other hdd's plugged in, and boot linux CD and make it build
an xbox hdd from scratch, after put it in your xbox again, lock it and it
will boot to MS dashboard to set your Clock, once that's done, you should
be fine.
in the Linux Disc options will be something like this.
-main menu, choose option 1 or 2, then type "xboxhd"
-the next menu, you'll get 8 choices, this is where you choose
to rebuild partitionC
Simple enough, can't figure it out, look in tutorials for more info on "xboxhdm_1.9"
