Hi,
I am really new to this, but learning quickly (I think/hope). I had a guy help me with a softmod and hdd upgrade and all is fine. Now that I have it and have started learning more about all this (wish I had done it all myself, but I'll do the next one) I wanted to backup the important files just in case something was to ever happen with the new hdd.
I ftp's the console and copied the C: & E: folders but noticed that there was no eeprom.bin. I know that it all was backup up initially, and of course he needed it to prepare the new hdd, but now it is no where to be found? There is a E:\Backup\MS folder containing the following folders:
Audio, fonts, SID, xboxdashdata.185ead00, xodash
and the following files:
msdash, settings_adoc, xbox book, xbox, xboxdash
but like I said, no eeprom.bin, and I'd imagine some important files that should have been backed up in the E: folder.
I'm not sure where or when these files wouldn't have transfered over (do they not get transfered when a new hdd is replaced?) Or when everything was updated with Autoinstaller deluxe?
Anyways, I had hoped to just be able to backup the ms dash and mod dash now, but can't find that option anywhere in the UnleashX (or other dashes) menus. Is that option only available when the game hack is being run to initially install the mod, and if so, could I just get my hands on the game again (I think the exploit game save is still on the hdd), run the exploit, and would I be able to do it then? Or is there an easier way that I can do it through my installed dashboards?
Hope I got all the lingo right - still learning and I thank anyone who can help me with that.
Great place!

Just noticed that in the E:\TDATA\080299ff folder there are files named:
avalaunch.xml.backup, eeprom.bin (1KB), EEPROM_BACKUP.bin(1KB)
I don't suppose this is the one I'm looking for is it?

hi,
It depends on which application you use to backup your eeprom and other information.. EVOX DASHBOARD has a backup option in it and copies the files to C:\Backup\
Im not sure about avalaunch but its probably very simlar.. It looks like you have the right files but just wait for another member who uses avalaunch to confirm.
God I'm having a hard time remembering what he used to backup the info initially (since it was about 1 in the morning)! I think he just did it when he was installing the softmod (SID3). I suppose if the option to boot with the tray open had been enabled then I'd be able to get back into the SID3 menu - to backup dash, eeprom, restore, etc... but that option was not enabled, so I don't think I can get to that menu. And I think that avalaunch was installed after the mod and new hdd were installed along with the other apps from the autoinstaller cd. When the console boots up the UnleashX dash loads, not avalaunch (but it is one I can choose from the menu).
One other question, kind of related, I'm not sure if the hacked SID3 is still loaded as a game save or not? How can I tell if it's there, and if not, can I ftp it to the modded xbox to get back into tbe SID3 menu and backup the eeprom.bin - if so, which directory do I transfer it to?
Sorry for all the questions and I really appreciate the help. This is a present for my kids - they'll be doing the playing - I'll be doing the tech support, so I figure I had better learn asap.

btw there is no C:backup folder - just a E:Backup one
Just the files I listed in the first post - no eeprom.bin, which is why I started thinking that something was not right?

Could someone perhaps at least tell me what size the eeprom.bin file should be? The one I listed above that I found in the other directory is 256 bytes. Is that the one I'm looking for? Which are the other important files that are supposed to be saved in a backup?
Thanks

Thank you so much for that response.
Should I assume then that if I backed up my C: E: and have that eeprom.bin backup (not in the E:\backup\MS directory though), that I have all that I would need to restore a new hdd if the one I am using should crash? I read a few guides that mentioned there was five files I needed - can't remember them, but eeprom.bin was one of the five - none of the others are anywhere to be found now.
Do these files get backed up when you backup the original MS dash or when you back up the modded dash? I know that they were all there at soe point because I used them to prepare a new hdd, but after that I ran the autoinstaller deluxe cd, installed a bunch of files and now when I search through the directories none of those files are present.
If I used the xboxhdm and copied my backup C: E: and that eeprom.bin do you think I'd be ok? Or do I need to reinstall the mechassault cd, run the SID3 menu again and go to backup mod? Would that backup the needed files, or do I already have what I need backed up and am I worrying about nothing? Or is there a way to backup what I need through the menu in the AutoInstallerDeluxe cd? I was reading about the backup harddrive and config magic options, but wasn't sure if that's what I needed to do...
I would appreciate the advice from any of you pros.
