hmm, looks like you didnt really read into softmodding. the main thing that you dont get with softmods that you do with mod chips is xb live xompatibility.
if you want to get back on live you will need to get a new eeprom

yea i read into it alot... and got confused about most of it, all well
so if i were to use a different xbox with my GT will it still work, or is my name banned
and what is the eeprom

yeah, you can take your gamertag onto someone elses xbox and it should work(don't quote me on that)
your eeprom is a small file that basically identifies your xbox, and since it's banned, your individual xbox can't get on XBL ever again... _________________ Softmodded Xbox V1.6

You would actually need a brand new virgin EEPROM (image file or detailed information) and a new stock virgin HDD
Virgin meaning they can never have been on live.
Secondly, the eeprom and Hard Drive are Married after your first sign on with XLive. "Marriage Theory," will not allow you to reuse the same HDD even with the new EEPROM) _________________ XBOX v1.6

settle dude, he was just trying to do a softmod and didnt realize you couldnt go on live with the modded software, no cheating here

lol, so quick to come to conclusions you are...maybe he wanted to just mod them to bug out his friends on multiplay...lol

anyway, you xbox is still good otherwise
if you need help getting back on live let me know and ill help some more, but i would suggest a mod chip so you dont have to back up and restore your files everytime you want to get on live

just getting a new hdd, eeprom, and mod chip would be a hell of a lot cheaper lets break it down like this
doux2 15 bucks
new eeprom 5 bucks
new 8-10gb hard drive about 20 bucks
you've only spent 40 dollars
throw in the fact that you would have an extra controller if you bought a new xbox 30 dollars for that
so 70 dollars and you've got something just as good
or, you could spend the extra 100 dollars by instead of getting a stock sized hdd toward a bigger, say 160-200gb one (althought i've heard that your gt is watched more closely once it was use on a system band before)
i think that would be alot cheaper/better option for you to do. if you dont want to attempt to solder or install anything then get a solderless adaptor or hell, send it to myself and ill install everything for less than the price of a solderless adaptor...modgod also does installs if your seeking a more 'professional' job.
