Hi everyone,
i have sucessfully softmodded my xbox thanks to your excellent website , Thankyou to everyone who helped make the softmod installer deluxe, it worked like a dream!
now i have a few questions to ask:
1. i installed evox onto my xbox, now am i meant to be able to go into the ms dashboard from evox becasue it won't let me go into it, if there's some way of putting it on there please tell me how.
2. i have an action replay and would like to transfer saves using it but i can't figure out how to transfer saves from the memory card to the xbox using evox, how do i do it? do i need a special application to do it?
3. where is the gamesaves folder on the xbox? can i transfer saves to that folder over ftp?
4. What do i need to remove off my xbox if i wanted to play on xbox live?
5. is there a dashboard available that looks like the dashboard on this website: http://www.xroad.com.au/, because i think it looks alot more better than the evox one.
6. what software do i need on my computer to copy xbox games and how do i go about do it?
Thankyou so much in advance to anyone who can answer my questions

1. The answer to your first question depends. Did you install the MS Dashboard using the Auto Installer Deluxe? If you did, did you patch it? If you answer yes to the first two questions then you need to check the config.ini file for EvoX. To do this you will need a file explorer of some sort. I can't remember if EvoX has one or not, but there is one built into the AID. Once you get into the file Explorer open the config.ini file, and go near the bottom and find the area that says Micrsoft Dashboard, if it links to C:\xboxdash.xbe, change it to C:\msdash.xbe and that will solve that problem.
2. If you have the MS dashboard problem fixed, you can transfer them like any other gamesave. If you want to use the file explorer you will look for the H or J drive on one side, that is your memory card, go into the UDATA folder found inside and copy the numbered folder and then paste it into the E:\UDATA directory.
3. I sort of answered that question in number 2. The gamesaves folder is found under the E: drive and the UDATA folder.
4. Not sure on this one, but im pretty sure you can use the SID to format the C: drive and click the option restore MS Backup. This is of course assuming that you made a backup of your box before you modded it. I'm sure there is another way, but I can't think of it quite right now.
5. The dashboard found on that site LOOKS likw a skin for the UnlashX dashboard.
6. Now we don't condone piracy here on HQ, however if you are wanting to make backups of your games there are many options. CloneXB, C-Xbox, Qwix and many others. There are great tutorials for this and some of your other questions in the tutorials section of the site.

I hope AusDude doesn't mind me hijacking his thread here but I have pretty much the same problem although my fix may not be the same.
I used Action Replay to install Softmod using the 007 game save trick...and like AusDude, thanks to those who helped with that part of it. Now, even though I thought I followed the instructions to the letter I was never able to get to msdash in my Evox menu (it is red and I can't choose it). And again, like AusDude, cannot use the Action Replay memory thingie to load game saves.
I have read more than a few posts on the subject of msdash problems but am uncertain as how to proceed without screwing up. I have found / burned Auto-Installer Deluxe 2.0 but have been afraid to boot to it (yet) in fear I'm going to hose everything.
AutoLaunchGames = No
AutoLaunchDVD = No
DVDPlayer = "E:\apps\DVDX\default.xbe"
AutoLaunchAudio = No
#AudioPlayer = "C:\msdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard = "C:\msdash.xbe"
UseFDrive = Yes
UseGDrive = Yes
SkinName = Original
UseItems = No
ScreenSaver = 5
Fahrenheit = No
ShadeLevel = 90
EnableSMART = Yes
HDD_Temp_ID = 194
ChameleonLed = 15
TSR_Type = 1
IGR = No
GameRegion = 0
Right now everything seems to work perfectly with the exception of the lack of msdash choice. Any suggestion as to the most simple of fixes would be most appreciated.
Thanks once again for all your help,

From the looks of the contents in your C: drive, it looks like the MS dashboard there, hasn't been patched. Once you patch the MS Dash, it shows up as msdash.xbe even though tehre is an xboxdash.xbe.

Thanks crash04. Yes, I kind of figured out that if evox.ini includes MSDashBoard = "C:\msdash.xbe" then there probably should be msdash.xbe in root of c: but that's where I'm stumped. I don't know the most simple way of getting it there.
If I boot to my softmod menu I see the patch.
I know that there is stuff on that Auto-Installer 2.0 dvd to do pretty much the same thing perhaps. I just don't understand the steps / the process to get me thru this. In the original instructions included with the "softmod" there was a redundancy in that after I patched msdash I would need to repeat the entire process over again / backup / etc.
Do I really need to do all of that or am I just not getting it?

Well, there was a redundant part to it, and it was a bit frustrating, because you had to softmod, run AID and install MS Dash, then restore the softmod, then patch then install. But with AID 2.0, after you patch it with the update pack, it will install the MS Dash plus the softmod so it looses that redundant step, sort of. Then all you have to do is add a dashboard, which is easy to do from AID 2. Here is a link to the SID 3.0 manual which explains it better. http://www.aid.xbox-hq.com/index.php?cmd=manuals§ion=sid30-05 If you are using SID v2.0 here is a forum topic that will help you too, it made the instructions easier to understand. http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt6749.html Go to the 5th post in that topic and it makes a little bit more sense. Hope some of this helps.

Thanks again crash04.
Like a good little xbox newbie I did do some research. Both those links you gave me are bookmarked and I have read them more than a few times. If I were starting from the begining it might be easier to follow the instructions but in that I already have the softmod installed I don't understand where to "jump in" as far just dealing with the msdash part. Do I really need to start at the beginning / delete all files off c:, etc ? Use the softmod menu at boot? Use the AID 2.0 dvd and go another route completely? It's nervous time for me clicking on things when I don't understand all of it more than I do. I don't want to mess things up.
*Note: Perhaps I never managed to install MS Dash 5960 as part of the original instructions. I did run a "newish" game as suggested but maybe it just didn't work. But still, if that is the root of the problem then I still don't know where to begin. Way too much information / instrucions as to all of it. It does get a bit overwhelming.

Well, to be honest, where to jump in, is really a choice up to you. I think either route, if the original dash was installed, I'd try the patch 5960. If not i'd start at the point of installing it and and patch, then softmod and go in. That's if you're confident in what you are doing. If i was in your position, I would just start from scratch on the whole softmod, to make sure everything was done right. Just format the C: drive and start from that step. I've dont enough of them, but I still would restart myself, just to make sure, but i'm also a little over cautious at times too. I'm sorry that I'm giving information that you've already got to, I just like to cover the basics first. You'd be surprised how many people don't research lol.
EDIT: After looking at you C: drive contents I noticed that you have xboxdash.xbe, so maybe all you'd have to do is patch it from the softmod menu.

I sure wish I would have read that "edit" before I proceeded.
I booted to the AID 2.0 dvd and chose to install MS Dash 5960. At the conclusion of which I rebooted to see what changes it may have made.
Error 21
AID disc in or out, tray open or closed....Error 21.
I cannot ftp into the box. Before it had been set to use dhcp and my routher gave it an ip. Even though my router software reports that it has assigned an ip to the box I cannot ftp to it.
I'm pretty much dead in the water right now...as I feared.
** For what it's worth...the box will play a real xbox game.

calm down, it's funny cause did exactly the same thing as you last night, i tried installing the xbox dashboard with AID and got that error code, i was so annoyed, i thought i'd buggered up my xbox. but there is a very simple way to fix it. just get to the softmod installer deluxe menu again using your save game exploit, it should still be on the harddrive, and if you manage to get into that menu, then select "restore mod backup" and it will be fixed hopefully.
it scared the shit out of me too .
thanks very much crash04 for your help, although im still a little stumped on how to get the dashboard back on as i nearly stuffed my xbox.

dw i figured out how to make the xbox dashboard usable, i simply just went to The patch 5970 thing ang it works now , i also put unleashx on as my dashboard instead (looks better in my opinion) although wenever i select a skin i like, it works. but wen i restart the xbox it just goes back to the default skin, can anyone help? (i think it may have something to do with me having evox and unleash-x installled on my harddrive at the same time, i think )
Thanks

Glad to hear you're up and running AusDude.
Woke this morning and realized that if my xbox played real dvd's then I could go get the 007 AUF and start from scratch using the Action Replay trick.
Unfortunately, now it won't play any xbox dvd...weird. I know it played NCAA last night when I posted but now...it's all error 21.
Can't do it that way.
Can't ftp to it...I have no way of know what the ip is.
