Hey folks, I need advice...
I have two xboxes my friend and I bought and I soft moded.
they are moded with the soft mod installer found here at xbox-hq
I need to keep one of the Xboxes and give him the other.
I may want to use a mod chip in the future, and he wont change his.
Should I keep the Ver 1.6 with a Philips drive or keep the ver 1.0 xbox with the thompson drive.
Please consider I may want to chip it in the future.

i have no problems with my thompson drive. i always use dvd-r's. i think 1.0's are easier to add a modchip too... not sure but i think they are.

You can add a chip to both but it will be alot easier with the v1.0 and you can go solderless with the 1.0 as well _________________ Xbox v1.0

V1 with out a doubt....There are so many people here on Xbox HQ having trouble with V1.6 Xbox's.

Thanks for the 100% vote on the version 1.0 box.
so I will keep the 1.0xbox,
But I have another problem now.
When I did the upgrade to the bigger hard drives. I put the 160 gig in the 1.6 and a 120 gig in the 1.0 xbox. I just tried to swap them so I can keep the bigger drive.
But I get --the flashing red eject button--, and the Xbox needs service screen
They do still work if swaped back.
I DID change the LOCK CODES to the proper New Calculated numbers pryor to the swap. But I DID NOT change any files on the drive.
Must I change some files?
or do I need to wipe the drives and reinstall the other xbox's Files from scrach like I did when I started. the soft mod?

I dont know what you mean by lock code....but you need to make sure the EEPROM of the drive youre putting into the xbox matches the EEPROM of the motherboard for that xbox or you will get the error screen. I suggest configmagic.....hope that helps. _________________ Xbox v1.0

After a day of trying to swap the Hard Drives, I cant make the v1.0 box take the 160 gig drive that was installed in the version 1.6 box.
I wiped the FatX table and repartioned and reinstalled but no luck.
I used Config Magic also, though I am not sure If I was going about it right.
Each time I put that drive in I get --Xbox needs service--
Anyway thanks for helping me decide which Xbox to keep.
Now Its time to play...
