Hi,

I've got a first gen xbox from 2001 and just attempted a 2.6 solderless install which I had trouble with...The D0 wasn'tgetting seated right.

Well I finally got that part done BUT,now when ever I boot the system, either with the mod in or out,the system attempts to power on 3 times then just leaves me at a black screen.

I'm sure this has been covered here somewhere, but I'm new to this board and modding in general.

Did my mod install fry the motherboard? Was it just a matter of time with a box this old for something to happen?

Thanks!

If you have the Green and Red light flashing it means that you messed up your eeprom. They have a small tutorial at this page. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/eeprom_fix.htm

Hope this helps!

i dont think th3 mod fri3d your moth3rboard but im pr3tty sure you hav3,

try redoing everything again ,

you might have damaged a trace somehow or broke off something ,

either way even if you somehow damaged the access to the tsop a properly installed chip should still work

yeh you most likley damaged something on the lpc for it to reboot 3 times, if it won't boot without the chip then you defo have.

Take a close look at it again

but this is the Newbie forum where at least one of the Syickies says...No one bites...SOOOO

Is the only test left the one that was first suggested? Reflash the stock eprom?

I've got a 160gb hd ready to install and was looking forward to using the mod chip.

Now all I have is a nice collection of pieces on my kitchen table.

At this stage from what you've seen posted here, should I be looking at buying another mother board?

Remember the thing tries to boot 3 times with the mod chip or adapter in...

Thanks!

If you remove the chip and sever the D0 does your machine still frag?

If no, then it was the way the chip was seated.

If yes, then you scratched a trace or D0..

seriously doubt you have eeprom issues.

if the thing is fragging?

This problem happens with the chip and adapter in or out...

Should I take the motherboard out and check the D0 on the flip side to see if there is any thing noticable there?

If so,is that sort of thing repairable by a novice?I did choose the solderless installfor a reason...Smile

Seriously THANKS A TON EVERYONE!

Here we go... so if the chip AND solderless adapter are installed, you are getting the flashing red and green. You take both the chip and the solderless adapter out, restart from power down and you are still getting the flashing? Did the Xbox ever work after you first installed the adapter and chip? Did you flash anything to the chip like a bios? Just because it's perhaps a 1.0 machine doesn't mean it's old... really! I think it was a bad D0 placement myself, can be tricky at times and besides, the 1.0 has all holes filled with solder, so solderless is a lot easier than draining those little buggers then fuggin filling them again.

screen after the adapter and chip were installed, but then it started the 3 boot thing and never recovered.

Now even with the chip and everything back out, it still does the 3 boot thing but doesn't get to the normal xbox screen...It just stays black...

Should I just try and source another mother board or should I try and fix this myself?

The D0 part was the hardest part of the install and I did have a bit of trouble getting it into the hole and making it stay {boy that sound funny, and no in other areas of my life I have not trouble at all finding the hole...Smile

before you buy a new mb have a goodclose look at all the ide pins on the hard drive and cdrom - push the plugs hard home once you have made sure no pins are bent, try a spare ide cable from a pc as what you are getting can happen with a bad connection. you may just a given a bit too mutch of a tug, also take a close look at the small plug going to the dvd rom.

hope it helps

It doesn't get to the dashboard which it should do even with the hard drive and dvd disconnected.

Funny thing is that I tried everything again last night and wasn't able to get to ms dashboard but was able to get into the cromwell bios a couple times before the 3 boot thing happened.

While I was in the cromwell screen, I wasn't able to scroll through the menu at all. All that happened was that the entire menu shifted up and down.

Only one ms controller connected.

I'm starting to really think the mb is fried...I must have scratched a trace or something like was mentioned here.

hi i have the X3 with a V1 board - as yet not managed to flash it with antything but cromwell.

i noticed it has been more 'flakey' than normal (usual for anything Microsoft) and on occasions does what your does with the 3 time reset and flashing power light to blue screen. This also happens with a bad 'flash' soipso fatso could still be to do with the 'mod'.

get a good bright light and a magnifying glass, check arround all the places you have been too, and every where else incase a solder splash or dropped ball which are easier to see with a bright light as they glitter- it only takes a spider leg of solder across some pins or tracks for all to go tits up, and they occur when the iron is to hot, to dirty or not kept fluxed. its possible you have 'de-solded a connection if your iron was 'dry' whilst attaching cables. some hole are 'feed through' it has a pin connecting one side to the other through the board.

i don't know if you have the bank switches like the X3, this gives me a 'reserve' bios. by switching to the second memory set (OFF.ON.OFF.OFF) i can boot as normal.
