Do you have the eeprom.bin?

If not that is the problem.

Solutions:

1). Build/buy and use an eeprom reader.

2). Fit a chip and then the need for a locked HDD is removed.

Do you have access to a Raspberry Pi or Arduino?

If so, there are programs for either single board computer that can be used to read the 8-pin serial EEPROM's data to create the eeprom.bin file.

Once you have this 256 byte file, add it to the directory where XboxHDM23USB is located on your PC - xboxhd.bat will be present in the correct folder. When you try to lock the hard drive, the file not found error will no longer occur. The hard drive will be locked with the correct password for the Xbox that you read the data from its configuration EEPROM.

Have you tried reconnecting the original drive and then making sure all the cables were completely plugged in?

Don't give up hope just yet. Still a few things we can try. Making noises is normal for those old things. It may be on its way out.

Assuming you already have the ability to connect your drive to your PC.
Plug up everything like it was when you got the Xbox. This time however, do not plug the power cable into the DVD drive. With everything else plugged in correctly, power on the Xbox and hopefully you should get an error 12 screen.

Any chance you have another IDE cable you could try on it?

Also check and see what your jumper is set to on the HDD.

I had some free time today so i tryed everything you suggested.Nothing changed still getting the error 7 with the old hdd.I also tryed connecting it to my computer but it didn't even recognize it.I think that the best thing now is to build the cable and extract the eeprom. What do you think? Is there anything else I can try?

There’s always more you can try, but I’d go ahead to grab the eeprom while you have the time and tools. That will make this process a breeze.

Anytime and likewise. Whenever you’ve got the eeprom.bin on your PC, let me know and we can continue the project.
