I just have one question? Why cant I activate fatx partition table? I go to build hd from scratch and it asks me if I want to make a partition table. pressed yes. then it asks me why my hd is bigger than 8 gigs if I want to make a f partition and I said yes. then it tries to activate the fatx and it gets denied. why is that. did not not build my xboxhdm wrong.
thanks in advance

Did you pick BUILD HDD FROM SCRATCH? Also is your HDD pre-formatted? Ive had on occasion issues with RAW HDDS, but after formatting NTFS or FAT32 no issue.

thanks for replying back sppy.. Yes, I picked 1, which is build hd from scratch. Then it asked me if I want to make a partition table. I typed yes down, why it didn't find one I fugured I needed one. Then it asked me why my hd is bigger than 8 gigs if I want to make a f partition. I just assumed yes to that too. So, I typed yes for that too. Then it says that it want to activate fatx. Theirs where it errors out. I even rebooted computer and tried again. and still no go..
I'm going to ask a stupid question here, but Im still a rookie at this. how do you reformat the xbox hd. When I hook it up to the computer it tells me in the bottom right corner that it found new hardware. then does its thing, and say ready to use but its not ready to use for I cant see it in my computer setting or in xplorer360 and even in device manager. but in xplorer360 it says it cant find fatx drive or nor can i see it in explorer360. I thought the xbox hd is formatted in fatx.
My xbox hd is in the slave drive and computer hd is in the main primary drive.when I gotto boot order it does see both hd but not when it boots up to windows. I have tried to switch the order of the 2 drives, but then computer doesnt reconize either one of the drives.
Thanks in advance

What operating system are you running? XP, Pissta, 7, OSx, Linux?
Normally the HDD wont show because its a totaly foreign file system. If running 7, go into Control Panel-System/Security-Create Format HDD/Partitions. It should show in there and say it has to be formatted. Hit Computer and double check drive letters, dont wanna format the wrong HDD, and format it NTFS.
If running XP use a 3rd party format app like partition wizard, OSx fucked if I know lol, and in Ubuntu 10.10 you should see it if you click on file, then click on the drive and hit format EXTFS3

I want to thank you sppv for trying to help me out. I cant seem to be able to reformat hd in those programs. It sees the harddrive but it keeps on erroring out. saying their are bad sectors in hd. So, does that mean that the hd is not good. I am sorry to be asking so many questions, but I didn't think it was going to be this hard LOL.
Thanks

Thanks
I know Im asking to many question and don't have the first part done. but I think I will eventually get it.

The error Windows gave you means, pardon my French, your HDD is a piece of shit lol. Bad sectors are normal, but when they are so rampant and widespread the drive cant even be formatted its time to go Old Yeller, and take that dog out back and shoot it lol
As for hardmod/chip only advice I can give is DONT DO IT. Chipping is like credit. Seems like a good idea at the time, but leaves you wallowing in debt and choking on the barrel of a gun after drinking a bottle of JD (metaphorically speaking of course)

Now that's just insulting!
I walked this guy through a softmod a couple of days ago and it was super fast (except memory card IO was awful) and easy, so I see where you are coming from.
However, I do love the hardmod route - especially my setups :) _________________

Nah just in my experience failure with Chip/TSOP is a lot harder to fix than a softmod is and in many cases to fix it you either have to buy a new chip or softmod it so you can reflash it if you dont have a programmer or the chip doesnt support external flashing. I know lots swear by chipping but I find em more work than they are worth.
