Hi, I softmodded by xbox a while back and only today changed the hard drive from the retail 8gig to a 180gig HD.

I did it using XboxHDM. When I booted the Xbox after rebuilding the HD with the eeprom it booted to the original MS Dashboard.

I am unable to access the Unleash X Dashboard so I have tryed the AID by burning it to a disk (Lite Version) but when I put it in to the xbox it just said it was no recognised.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to burn it to a DVD?

You must not have cloned the hdd right, you could just softmod the new hdd using the game exploit.

I am just restoring it back to the original dashboard and then going to softmod it again and try AID again.

Yep wes hit it when you copied your c drive you got the shadow c and not the real one. You have to either remod it with a gamesave mod or use the sid5 pimped xboxhdm installer which will build the drive modded and install xbmc apps and emus. The way your xbox is now you will never boot aid
