Hey there,
I switched with 3 Xboxes to Kingroachs Ndure-3.1 softmod,
it comes standard with UnleashX dash v.0.38,
I've updated it to v0.39 but still have the same problem:
when I set in Settings fan speed to 1.0x, it goes louder than 1.5x,
I've compared it, and 1.0x equals 3.0x!?
that happens for 2 of the 3 Xboxes, a v1.0 and a v1.6 Crystal Xbox...
strange thing is, it does work correctly for the 3rd Xbox, which is also a v1.0...
moreover it was a defective Xbox that I fixed trace corrosion of (4 traces),
so now it appears to work better than my never-gone-bad Xboxes, lol, nice but very annoying...
if I set speed to 1.5x, the noise is tolerable,
if I set it to 1.0x it goes louder like 3.0x !!!
i dont no what the problem is, try to softmod it with the mechassualt exploit and it might work, when i softmodded my xbox I would adjust the fan speed and it would shut down so I just re softmodded it and it works fine. I keep my fan speed at 3.0 and on my xbmc dash i keep it at 60%. hopefully if resoftmod it, it will fix the problem

I would say switch to SID5 soft mod and no more probs man.
I agree w/ wes man. Wes is the man. Softmod would be the way. Although, if you want to avoid going that route swapping out the hardware for some different fans, or swap out the heatsink altogether would also be the way to go as well. Just a thought, you could even at a nob on the back of your xbox to manually adjust the speed of your fan to your likening.
