Xbox version: I think it is a 1.6 something but that shouldn't matter with this
Ok here is the deal:
-Im trying to softmod and I have tried SID v4 and 5.01. I have tried Splinter cell, AUF, and Mechassault and neither of them has been able to successfully complete the softmod.
What I have done:
I am using the action replay thing and have followed all of the steps properly. Drag the installer file and the game save (depending on the game) onto the memory card, then copy to the xbox hdd. I have cleared every other save game off of the hdd except for the installer file and the exploit save. I load the game (either SC, AUF, or mechassault) and when I click through to load the exploit save the circle turns orange and the screen goes black. Then nothing else happens it just sits there. I have repeated this several times with each game and get the same results.
I have been searching for hours and I am honestly at my wits end. If anyone can help me I would be extremely thankful. It seems like this thing works just fine for everyone else BUT me. If you have any ideas please explain the solution to them and not just state them because it is frustrating to me when I hear ( for example) "The memory card is corrupting the files" but I get no solution along with it.
Thanks
EDIT: I think I posted this in the wrong forum. If a mod needs to move it go ahead. I am used to another forum which makes newbies post in the newbie forum until they have a certain # of posts.

Might want to check your MS dash ver. and make sure its up to date, if its not you can pop in a live game and it should update the dash for you.

Forgot to mention I tried that. It is the 5960. I put in Halo 2 just in case and tried the xbox live thing but Im not connected to the internet so it didn't really do anything but tell me it couldn't connect. Does kernel version matter
It seems to me like the linker file (game exploit) tries to link to the installer, but somehow doesn't find it so the xbox just sits there with an orange circle and a black screen.
Is there a way to format the xbox hdd or something? I am not new when it comes to modding and such, and and I have literally read the manual 20+ times and searched every different search term I could think of. This was supposed to be the simplest mod ever. I didn't really feel like buying a chip and soldering because it is just an old xbox. I was mostly just going to use it as part of the home entertainment system. The biggest problem is that when people seem to ask this question they never get a response and then they " figure it out so never mind" but don't post how they did it or what they changed.
Thanks

Two things to make sure of:
1. Is the mechassult game the right model number (I don't remember what it is, quick search should help)? Is 007 and splinter cell non platinum? If there platinum then they will not work with the installer.
2. Did you leave all of the saves in the rar format? If you unrar them they will not load properly. _________________

I have done literally EVERYTHING by the book. All games are the right version, all saves are in RAR format. I couldn't put them on in unrar'd if I wanted.
Does kernel version matter?
Basically anything that is covered in the manual I have checked, double checked and triple checked. I have done plenty of modding before on other systems so I'm not really a newb at this. Its frustrating because this is supposed to be so easy and it isn't lol.

Who is the mem card made by, is it an ms stock?
Some off brand cards and thumb drives have been known to corrupt the installer data.

It is an Active Replay card. I don't know how to get the info on the MS stock card from the computer.

You need to plugin the ms card to the usb thing. Then when it shows up in action replay right click the memory card. Then go down to format. Now you should be able to put the files on that, _________________
