Well I've jumped in to modding my old Xbox ver 1.0 now that I have a 360. My goal is to set it up mainly as a emulator system for MAME and whatever else I can find.
I soft modded the unit with the OO7 exploit and that worked fine. I can FTP to the Xbox. I can even play backed up discs made with ISO's. No problem.
I got hold of AID 4.1, burned it to disc and started it up in the Xbox just fine. The problems began when I rushed in and installed Evox again. I also quickly loaded in all the skins and watched as they were transffered. Now I can start the Xbox just fine and boot up to Evox but it doesn't list all the skins. And I don't even know is this is the Evox I updated or the original Evox from the initial softmod I did. Apparently AID installed all this in different directories?
I'd really like to start fresh, reformat or whatever I need to do to get a cleaner install of Evox and all the skins, etc. through AID. And then later go on to install the Media Center and emulators. It seems as if my various drives and directories have been screwed up.
Basically I'm needing info on the following:
How to I get back to the original retail HDD settings using AID 4.1?
If that requires erasing or reformatting drive(s) will the AID 4.1 disc still boot up or will I need to softmod again before using the AID disc?
Any other advice?
Oh yeah: the AID looks really great and a big THANK YOU to the guys who developed it!

Welcome to the HQ and we hope you enjoy this and the other sites we offer.
You might want to check your PMs.
To get back to stock you will find an option in the format and prep section of aid.
When you have that done you need to resoftmod the xbox and you will be good to go.

Thanks for the quick response and the helpful advice. The PM was appreciated and will certainly be followed!
I'll get back to work on resetting the HD tomorrow. Will I need to softmod as I did before with the 007 exploit or can I do it through AID?

No prob man.
When you do the reset on your hdd you will need to do the softmod with oo7, splintercell or mechassult like you did the first time.
If you need anymore help just let us know.
Check out our tut and download sections when you got some free time lots of good stuff in there and again man welcome to the HQ.

Well I worked on the HDD today. Loaded up AID and clicked on Format Retail HD. It only took maybe a second and said it was done. Now when I start up I get the flashing red light and the multi-lingual 'Call Customer Support' screen. OOPS?
Any help......

Well it seems I can still load and play games so maybe this is part of what I should be seeing? Should I go ahead and load the 007 softmod now?
I just don't wanna kill the system!

Looks like the system is killed. The saved 007 files I loaded earlier are gone and I can't FTP into the Xbox anymore. I backed up some game saves onto a memory card so the family won't be totally PO'd at me and we can still play games on the thing.
I should have just left it alone I guess.
So is there any way to recover this using the AID 4.1 disk? The Xbox won't even load it....

Yeah man you crashed that thing good, you needed to use the restore option in the hdd section not format.
You might be able to do the hot swap with it.
Heres the guide.

Well I came across the xboxhdm info while researching a fix and was afraid that might be the only option. Although I've done a lot of PC upgrading over the years I'm not too excited about popping open the PC and moving stuff around just to restore the old Xbox.
I'll prob just get hold of a another Xbox (Gamestop or eBay) and start fresh although I wasn't planning on sinking a bunch of money into this project. It's more the thought that this project beat me!!!

You don't need to get a whole new xbox. If you get a mod-chip and install it you can get the xbox working fine (will boot aid without the softmod). With a solderless adapter its super easy for people to install a mod-chip without soldering it in to the xbox. Trust me its much cheaper to buy a mod-chip then to buy a new xbox. _________________

Well I'd certainly be willing to give a modchip a try! I checked out the modchip section here and most of it is pretty foreign to me. I would definitely need solderless as my soldering skills are not up to this task. I'm sure there has been multiple threads as to the best chip to get for a particular version or use? I'm working on an original Xbox version 1 and looking to be able to play original games and try out some emulators. Will NOT be going online at all (using the 360 for that)
Can you point me towards threads/resources or, if you have a minute, tell me which chip might be best suited?
You guys rock!

Wes, checked out the link you gave and ordered a chip! Wish me luck.
Kinda curious about the store though. Is it legit? The front page says it's a demo store with no real products. Also my order confirm has no shipping charges added.
