Hidyho all,
My Xbox is softmodded, and had a 60GB drive in it that recently bit the dust. I ordered a new Maxtor 120GB 6L120P0 - listed 3 times on the HD Compatibility Chart as Locking - but xboxhdm1.9 couldnt lock it while I was doing the formatting/installing. I used the original EEPROM.BIN I had from my previous HD upgrade.
I also tried Slayers Auto 2.6 and EvoXNewHD1.4 as boot CDs, but they didnt load andI got an error 5. (I'm a bit unclear on this - I assume its because of the softmodding and not having a chip?)
So - does anyone know the name of a different quality locking tool for the PC - where I could put the HD in my PC box and lock it?
Or - Im getting tired of f'ing with it, so if I bought a chip could I solder it on and have everything work ok despite having already softmodded?

Anyone have any thoughts as to why xboxhdm wouldn't work despite having the EEPROM?

It took me a few times to get xboxhdm to work for the first time. If you feel you need to go with a mod chip then go for it. You wont have any problems chipping a softmodded box. _________________

Ive tried it 7 or 8 times with xboxhdm - no luck. Everytime I try and lock it I get the status update that the drive is "Security Supported", but not enabled, frozen, and anything else.
So frustrating.

Well, after the HD crashed, I didnt use a tutorial. My thought was that all I needed to do was properly format and install the new HD, and then lock it. I figured the softmod would handle the rest.

Hmmmmm, that tutorial outlined exactly what I tried - I have no problem setting up the xboxhdm .iso, or formatting, or installing the C/E drives. It's just that when I try to lock it with xboxhdm's locking tool (Option 3) it doesn't work.
