My buddy just got out of college for the year so he had me come back to his frat house with him to help move his stuff. In the proccess in the back room was a stripped old computer no sides, dusty etc. it had a seagate 30gb hdd drive everyone didnt care if i took the hdd so i did. its just a normal IDE drive. would there be any long term effects if i inserted this into my computer?? right now i have a sata hdd and an extra space on the dvd ide cable... so my question is, long-term effects?? also nobody knows whos or whats on it.. its dated 2001... _________________ (2) XBOX v1.4:

I don't see why this would cause any problems. Its not like its a memory chip or something. Knowing those fratboys though, its probobly loaded with pawn _________________

What kind of virus detection software are you running? If its up to date you shouldn't have much if anything to worry about. _________________

well the thing is since its a total different harddrive... im just mainly concerned about the settings being changed, would it be better to swap them out, or just plug it into the IDE and boot up??? this one prolly has some kind of XP on it... will the computer get confused?? _________________ (2) XBOX v1.4:

If you're worried about the thing trying to boot, just set it as slave. I assume your SATA drive is the one currently booting Windows? If it is, IDE drives always take priority over SATA drives, so set the IDE drive as slave.
If viruses on the thing is something you're worried about, just format the drive when you get into Windows. You'll be fine!

Yeah, as long is its set as a slave, no settings will be changed. _________________
