I soldered my XBIT chip (one of the older ones) to my v 1.4 xbox. There was no specific instructions online from team DMS, so I followed the v 1.5 install guide and soldered it to those points. I loaded the bios onto the chip, but it only boots sometimes.
I can only get it to boot if I am physically touching the xbit wires that connect the chip itself to the board that holds the dip switches. Otherwise the xbox will not boot and just flashes red and green lights (FRAGS).
Anyone know what the issue might be? Is it possible that I have a short or that the chip is not properly grounded?

most likely the D0 point, also make sure all your solder points are good.

I still have to worry about the D0 point even though everything soldered? What's curious is that it works, just only half the time. Would touching the wires have any affect on whether or not it loads the bios? (or is that just a coincidence)

yes it would if your soldering isnt the best... somewhere along the line you might have not gotten a good solder.. if the chip is always getting power then its your D0 point, if it powers on and off, then its one or more off the pin soldering points

Thanks for the help. I'll recheck my soldering points. So for sure it won't have anything to do w/ me soldering the wrong ground point? The only reason I ask again is that DMS only posted soldering points for v1.0-1.3 and v1.5. Any reason you can think of why it would work when I'm touching the wire?

the only thing i can think of is your solder points. double, triple maybe even resolder if it still does it the no boot after a visual.. if the points arent really touching solder wont really bridge the gap, so sometimes it maybe even looks like a good solder, and it wont be..
