If your kernel version is 5713 or later, then it is not possible to downgrade to a 4920 dashboard, and you will be unable to use the Software Method.
so, does that mean I am not able to actually do the softmod now?

I have the 5960 Dash and I was able to softmod mine using S.I.D. 4.5 Nknave edition yesterday and was able to put in a bigger harddrive today thanks to the tutorials on this site . Thank you everybody for this great site.

Well, first I should note that this is my very first attempt and some of the tutorials I find are missing some details, perhaps I just haven't found the right one. As for the softmod process, to date I have created my own USB -> Xbox connector by solder like-coloured wires together. This works fine, as on boot-up the usb adapter is formatted by the xbox. I have gone into windows and modified the xbreeder.ini by altering the idVendor and idProduct to match my mem stick.
The part I'm stuck at now is I'm trying to use ActionReplay on my PC to transfer the gamesaves of splinter cell (and any other required files) to my homemade xbox memstick, so I can power up xbox, and from there transfer to a memory card or the HDD...but alas, AR doesn't seem to recognize my mem stick. So in reading some sites I saw that line and was concerned I'd be banging my head on this for nothing. Is there a comprehensive tutorial (a start to finish type thing) out there that can step someone through a softmod? If not, is there any advice you would have as to what my next step should be?
