Restored MS backup no problems. Confirmed standard MS boot. Tried another game and it launched OK.

Re-ran softmod installer with SINGLE BOOT option..... still same error.

I am not sure why, but I couldn't get the AR software to recognise two different USB memory sticks I have here. (I don't have an AR cartridge to try.)

Hence why I FTPed the folders of files to the mem stick via L drive on my other modchipped XBOX, then shifted the card into the XBOX I wish to softmod.

Any trick to getting my USB mem stick to be recognised by AR? Both brands appear to be in the compatible media list.....

So should I be grabbing the files from the ZIP or from the UDATA directory?

I am a complete n00b, and am having the same exact problem. I have a 1.0 (1.0a) according to SID and using either 3.1F or 4.5 it usually returns the "Xbox requires service" message. Half the time with 4.5 it says it fails to find dashboards with an "error 22."

Don't mean to be a bother, but the suggestions regarding the second one didn't seem to apply as I didn't need to rebuild the harddrive (I think that's what I read?) or anything as I keep the saves and backups handy.

I'm using an old cruzer mini 32mb usb drive, and it works perfectly, I can transfer saves back and forth quite easily, xbox thinks it's a memory unit, etc. SID loads just fine, none of the "wizards" return any errors or anything, I've followed a number of "last guides you'll ever need" which all have slightly different suggestions. I've read everypage of DJB's and nknave's stickied threads a couple times, trying different things here and there.

I feel like I'm just missing something so simple I'm overlooking it everytime.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, I didn't feel it warranted an entire thread, and I was having the same problem.

Thanks for joining in, hopefully between the two of us and the rest of the community here we can work out a solution....

Anyone got any clues as to what we can check to work out why the softmod isn't taking?

Where did you get the installer and gamesave...?

OK the only thing i can think of is to redownload the installer and game save... thay might have an error..

Last night I made an xbox HDD from scratch (Maxtor 80 gig off an old comp) modded it then formated it with aid disk put new 5960 MS dash in C drive, then backed it up in E drive, backed up eeprom then resoftmodded it with sid 4.5 and XBMC dash off the aid disk.

Hold on what MS-Dash do you have on that xbox it has to be the 5960 one... or it wont work mate....

Ony the 1.6 comes with that dash installed, if you dont have it updated allready you will need to do so for it to work...

I got the installer and gamesave off a torrent site and then another link I found of one of the various websites around. Both no good.

Is there an 'official' location I should go? How many files should be in each module?

I have updated the dashboard to the latest by launching X BOX LIVE to update it.

After installing, I couldn't find the 'shadow C' file on the XBOX's E drive anywhere.....

Problem Solved! Not sure why but here it is.....

I have had no success with Action Replay seeing the USB mem stick to get the gamesaves, so I resorted to putting the mem stick in my other Xbox that has a modchip in it. This mapped the mem stick as L drive.

I then FTPed the gamesaves direct to the mem stick as L drive. This method seemed fine (as far as copying the files goes) until after the softmod install wanting to reboot the Xbox. I got the MS Error 13 screen.

To fix the problem, I instead FTPed the game saves to my other modchipped Xbox to the E:\UDATA directory using FlashFXP (which was much slower than SmartFTP). Once copied to XOBX hard disk, I used the MS dashboard to transfer the files from hard drive to mem stick.

I then put this mem stick back in the unmodded Xbox, followed the same instructions and bingo it worked first time.

not sure now if it was the change in transfer method to mem stick or the change in FTP program...... but it worked! Very Happy

I also got mine to work. Used an old 32MB flash drive I found around the house, did the exact same steps as before, worked on the first try.
