Ok, I have got my HD key/password and ripped the eeprom on my current origianl drive. (with Xebain on it)

Now I have a 40GB drive I wish to use xboxhdm to format and configure the drive from scratch.

Can I do this without referencing my old drive? I basically want to build a drive that I can softmod and run XBMC on, but leave the old drive untouched, so should I fark this up I can switch back to the old drive and get my working Xbox back.....

am I missing something?

yes to all questions!

Download this MS Dash and rename it C and put it in the linux folder for XBHDM, then put your eeprom in the eeprom folder, go back a directory and run make-iso-win, burn the ISO, pop the disc in, power off the computer, unplug all your hdds, plug the one for the xbox up, an turn the pc on(may have to change bios setting to read from CD/DVD drive 1st)hten choose option 1, and make hdd form scratch, just answer yes to everything. Then reboot and choose option 3, then type "lockhd -a" without quotes of course. then put it in and resoftmod and there u have it!

Thanks for the link Smile

I had backed up my C drive last night (and eeprom) using the emergency Linux save from MA.... but to build the new drive I really wanted it to be exploit free so I could put on Sid3.1 and get configured with XBMC...
So that C drive image is perfect Smile

So, on final Newbie question (yeah right...) im building the HD image from scratch... got my eeprom, C drive image, Drive checked that it can lock..... burning Linux CD etc...seems ok with me....

one question though.... as im building from scratch, instead of build this vanilla drive and then using memory card to copy across files. Can I just put the SID3.1 softmod files for MA in place on the E drive as I build.... I have the whole AID3.1 stuff and the tools dir with the SID3.1 softmod files...so I was thinking just unzip and put into the E drive as I make the new HD image.... is that valid?

final update to this thread as i hate unfinished threads.

With my eeprom backup and the nice clean C image linked above (Thanks again) I built an ISO for xboxhdm. Having dropped my eeprom in the correct folder, C drive contents in C and the SId3.1 MA softmod gamesave in E.

Then ran it, created drive (40GB), locked it, stuck it in my Xbox...and a nice clean 5690 dashboard machine with the Sid3.1 softmod ready to be isntalled from MA. simplicity itself. I must admit im a Linux engineer, so anything Linux seems nicer to me... but not hard at all, once you get the eeprom.bin out of your system the sky is the limit Very Happy

thanks for the advice.

Not sure really, but there seemed to be too many bloomin options for softmod hacks and no-one really "Explains" them very well...yes I have read all the posts and PDFs etc... and googled but so many conflicting details... I downloaded the AID 3.1 stuff and there were options SId3.1 Sid4.5 Ndure etc

to be honest I just picked what sounded like ti would. Everything I read always has version X of this or that is of course the best.....

maybe I will just reburn my CD with Sid4.5 gamesaves and try that softmod. I love the beauty of the HD swap as I can unlock... reformat and try again Smile
