I just got my Xbox X3 CE modchip & X3 CP installed Saturday. I also bought and installed a Samsung SDG-605b to replace my Thomson DVD drive. I upgraded the X3 BIOS to version 3294. I've been reading tutorials left and right and my brain is fried, so please bare with me.
I finally figured out how to FTP into my Xbox and got the EvoX dash going last night. I followed a tutorial on how to make a boot disc, but it's not working. I was able to flash my BIOS just fine using the same media.......Verbatim Datalife plus CD/RW.
To test the boot disc, I deleted the evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini files from C: on the Xbox, cold booted with the boot disc in and it came up to the ORIGINAL Xbox dash before I even modded the Xbox, and then it gives me a message box saying it can't read the DVD/CD, etc. I can still boot into the default X3 dash by holding down the white button, which took me forever to figure out, but I want to be able to have a working boot disc, just in case.
To be specific, to make the boot disc I did the following.
1. Copied the evoxdash.xbe, evox.ini, and skins folder to a seperate folder. I renamed the .xbe file back to default.xbe. I also used a dummy file program to make a fake 50mb file to sort of fill space. I read somewhere that this needs to be done because the Xbox has a hard time reading a small boot disc or something like that.
2. I used Qwix to make the ISO file.
3. I used Nero to burn the ISO to Verbatim CD/RW(the same disc I used to flash my BIOS and yes, I erased the disc). I also tried burning the same ISO to a verbatim DVD/RW disc too and still no boot.
If I'm doing something wrong then please let me know, so I can fix it...thanks.

Did you put the disc in your PC and check to see what's on it? It sounds like the burn got screwed up, files are corrupt, or the ISO itself is sitting on the CD without being extracted by the burner. (D:/evox.iso)

what burn speed did you use in Nero when burning the ISO image?
CDRW are generally not that compatible, use a dvd-r and ensure to select a dvd project from the drop down list box in Nero. Burn real slow (2x)

There was only one speed to select from and that was 10x. This was for CD-RW. I also tried a DVD-RW and it didn't work either. I'll try a DVD-R. I bought a Samsung DVD drive because I've read they have a better record being compatible with media than the Thomson drive I replaced.
The ISO did get burned to the CD-RW because I checked it on my computer. Like I say, I'm using avalanch Qwix to make the ISO file because it has to be in a certain Xbox format or something like that in order for the Xbox to read it. I burn that ISO to the CD-RW, but the Xbox isn't reading it. Like I said above, I'll try a DVD-R next and see how that goes. And, I'll try to burn it slower, if I can. When I burn the CD-RW, Nero doesn't give me an option......it just burns at 10x...one speed.
I'll eventually get it to work....hopefull..lol.

I got it to work.
I used a DVD-R disc and burned really slow at 2x. Worked like a charm.
