Yeah, you definitely need to do some research. That is a pretty loaded question you posted. There is a lot of information that you should have obtained even prior to purchasing your mod chip.
Firstly, what are you hoping to gain out of your chipped Xbox?
Once you have that question answered, you then need to start looking into basic install tutorials. This will consist of proper assembly/disasssembly of your machine. Finding out what version your machine is so you know how to install the chip and what bios to flash to the chip. What the best equipment is used in the chip install...etc...
Then, you need to get an understanding on all the ways to flash your particular chip. Based on your setup, you may be limited in how you can flash your chip or you may be able to take advantage of easier flash methods such as HTTP flashing.
Once you have all that down, you need to figure out what oher software needs you are going to have. I would suggest getting hold of an installer like AID (Auto Installer Deluxe). This disk will give you all the software you will need and give you an avenue to install the software too. But, you need to know how to properly prepare your installer disk to assure that you have a smooth install.
Just break this puppy down into steps. You'll have a lot easier time, not to mention keep youself a bit more sane during this process if you just take your time and get all the knowledge you need prior to jumping into the install. Plus you decrease the chance of you nuking your machine during install. _________________ Xbox 1.4
