Introduction
I've noticed in the Xbox-HQ forums lately there have been a few question on how to change the DVD drive or replace a faulty one with a new one. So today, I will be explaing to you "How to change out your old DVD drive and replace it".
Things you will need:
1) The XBOX with the faulty drive
2) Torx 10 screwdriver
3) Torx 20 screwdriver
4) The new DVD drive
First, you want to open the xbox up.
NOTE: Opening the XBOX will void any warranty you my have on it!!!! IF you're okay with that, go ahead and disassemble the xbox. If you do not know how to take apart your xbox, follow this guide linked below.
Open your Xbox Console:

Second, you want to use the Torx 10 screwdriver to be able to remove the old DVD drive.
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS GROUND YOURSELF BY TOUCHING SOMETHING METAL BEFORE WORKING NEAR OR ON THE MOTHERBOARD DUE TO STATIC ELECTRICITY. IT CAN FRY YOUR MOTHERBOARD SO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL!
Now, there should be two cables plugged into back of the DVD drive. The big cable is the IDE cable and the smaller one is for power. Carefully remove both plugs and pull the old DVD drive out. You can trash the old drive or keep it for parts like I do. (You never know when you will need it!)
Once you have to old drive removed, drop in the new one. Any drive from another xbox will work and there are a select few PC drives that will work also, although I'm not positive which ones work with the xbox. If you don't have a spare drive laying around you can get them pretty cheap here: http://www.llama.com.
After you have the new drive dropped in, screw it down and plug the cables in. Put the XBOX back together and test to make sure the drive is working. If you followed the instructions you should have successfully replace your DVD drive! Any questions or problems, post a topic or PM me.
