FYI - Still failed on the step that patches the MS dashboard.
It gave a script error, rename failure, and stopped.
Hmm, ok.

I pulled up the XML file and performed the last group of steps manually and it all worked fine...
In any event - the reason it failed? There was no fonts folder present on C after the first part...it renamed fonts to fonts-modded and copied the stuff from the MS backup...no fonts folder there...so when it tried to rename fonts to f0nts it failed...
Why isn't there a fonts folder?? if there's not a fonts folder I don't even see how the xbox would boot, as it needs the fonts in that folder (which are hacked) to work with the hacked xboxdash.xbe that was put on C drive.

All I did was copy the fonts folder back, rename it to f0nts, then rename the fonts-modded back to fonts, renamed the xbe files, extracted the patch and ran it...voila - all done.
Should be an easy fix in the xml...assuming of course that I am not the only one with the problem...
Everything works as it should now...hopefully this will help someone else...
Well funny enough this is the first time this problem has come up, I'm confused on why there wasn't a fonts folder made on C Drive though, as it's a part of the softmod.rar file which the installer extracts to C Drive.
I'll keep an ear out to hear if anyone else has a similar problem, but honestly this is the first I've heard of this.
I'm glad that you did get it working again though

Finally softmodded an PAL xbox successfully! I used an official cartridge instead on the AR and it worked a treat using Splinter Cell. Thanks for all your help guys!

Here a newbie question:
How do i make a back-up of the eeprom?
I'm in the Softmod Installer Deluxe v1.01 menu and created a backup of c by using the "Create MS Backup" option. Now just to be on the save site i want to make a eeprom backup. Also how can i retrieve my hard drive lock key?
I was a little confused about this myself also. But can only back up your eeprom after you installed the dashboard.
I installed the evelution X dash. It has an option under system settings to BACKUP. It backsup your eeprom AND your HD lock key
To make things save, you could FTP that info to your PC hard drive.
Hope that helps.

I'm trying to mod another xbox, but I run into a problem.
I'm trying to make a backup "create MS backup" It starts copying files to E:\Backup\ but it halts while copying xbox.xtf
It comes up with error code 1117 (any info on where to look that up)
I installed the xbox live dash from NFSU2 and booted up the original MS Dash and went 2 settings. It didn;t want to load and gave me the Service Error code 21.'
I didn't do anything else. I'm pretty confused why it won't load the settings menu anymore... didn't delete any files or what so ever.
Any help on the 1117 error code?

despite not being able 2 backup the content of C before, I did apply the soft mod and installed the evoX dash.
All copying seemed 2 go just fine and copied games play perfectly...

This might be because it's trying to create te backup without the E:\Backup\MS\ folder is not present, since I was testing on my modded machine (I can turn my chip on/off depending on how I hold in the power button) the folder might have already been created. I'll double-check this for the new release.
I'm glad you did eventually get it working, as it's probably the best softmod installer by far.
