I found this great firmware for my drive, which boasts some nice features
Quote:
Drive: Pioneer DVR-106/DVR-A06 (Dual format DVD+/- Burner)
Firmware Rev.: v1.07
Patch: RPC-1 (Region Free) + 2xDVD-R + 12xRip (pressed DVDs)
Date: 2003.09.22 - 23:03 GMT
Author: >NIL:
Release Notes: This is the release version of the 2x4all DVD-R including the anti 2x Rip Speed limitation patch. The 2xDVD-R patch DOES NOT alter the write strategy for Pioneer 2x authorized media, or any media that is burnt at 1x or 4x. PROPER BURN OF 2X NON AUTHORIZED MEDIA IS NOT GUARANTEED!
Flashing Instructions: Make sure you don't have Intel Application Accelerator installed. Then run UPGRADE.BAT. You shouldn't have to downgrade if you flash from Windows

Just wondering if anyone has tried this and had success. I really want to use this but I'm not 100% sure.

Just tested it:
- 2x burn on 1x DVD-R's
- More than 2x DVD Ripping
- Regioin Free
Hehe, now I'm playing with power!!

Nice, be carefull about over clocking though. I know that with over clocking cd writers in PC's shortens their life considerably. You can get 950 megs on a 700 meg cd, but not all the cd's work and it can kill your writer. Good luck and going if it works. But be careful too. _________________ XBOX v1.0:

Yea don't worry, I'm not gonna really use much than what I posted. I don't really see much point of overburning CDs as like you said it's not fully compatible. The main thing I wanted was the 2x for 1x DVD-R and the reading quicker than 2x.
I don't burn a heap of DVDs at the moment, so only time will tell on how long it lasts, starting next year I should be doing heaps when I get my XBOX.
Thanks schirmk for your words of warning and wisdom though, I'll definately keep it in mind...

Yeah, no problem, I just killed a cd writer over clocking it once. And it was when they were still pretty expensive for a fast one so I took a hit on the budget and had to buy another one. I mean you never know unless you try it. Anyways good luck and with only small usage for know, you should be fine. _________________ XBOX v1.0:

I flashed it and it seems to work great. I haven't tried a Region 2 disc yet, but I'll give it a go later. _________________ "Modding the world, one xbox at a time"

That's good news, atleast your burner isn't fucked
I'm still yet to try another region dvd here (got a few region 1's) but I'm gonna assume it works anyways, I mean, everything else in the firmware does...
