Anyone know of a dash designed to optimize the 1080i hd format? All of the dashboard themes I have now look ok... but the text is way too large in the 1080 format, and flows off the screen area. _________________ Xbox 360 #2

Sorry mate. Not eaxtly sure what you mean there.. lol
Im no expert expecially when it comes to Hi Def..
The HD stuff is just way too dear in oz but its slowly coming down..
Ive had a HDTV on layby for months now already and not even half way through paying it off. heheh
Anyway, explain more to me about HD and how it works etc..
What are the extra cables (if any).. Maybe even once we get some more info going in here we should attract even more info.
Well, you need the advanced high def AV pack hookup for your xbox. It has a regular xbox plug on one end and a componet input for your tv on the other end of the pack. The componet input had three video chanels and two audio chanels. The componet video contains two color shade (chrominance) signals and one brightness (luminance) signal. It achieves greater color accuracy than any other type of hookup (other than HDMI) by spiltting the chrominance into two seperate portions. So even on a regular tv (non high def) that has composite hookups you get a better picture than you can with regular AV cables. Regular AV cables (composite) combine both chrominance and luminance into one signal.
So with regular composite cables on a regular TV you can play games at 480i resolution.(480 interlaced horizontal lines). On a high def tv with componet cables you can play games at 480p, 720p, and 1080i resolutions which is alot better. 480p is already double the refresh rate of 480i. 720p has 240 additional lines over 480p and 1080i has 600 more lines although still interlaced.
Some games don't play high def at all (Morrowind) but Halo will play at 480p and MX v.s. ATV will play at 1080i. So imagine Halo at twice the resolution(refresh rate). Mx v.s. ATV is awesome at 1080i on a 36" screen. Its like computer monitor resolution on a 36" screen.
So I already have the system running at the highest resolution possible for each specific game, but the dashboards are different. The graphics will go to 1080i but the information (text) won't ... so the info is either all elongated and huge and won't fit in the text areas, or is so tiny its hard to read. Hence my searching for a dash fabricated to run at 1080 without the text mutations. _________________ Xbox 360 #2

you may be able to edit the xbmc xml and change font size or type. my 30" supports 420p 720p and 1080i and looks best in 720p.... but im sure you know all about the 1080i vs 720p wars so ill leave it at that. _________________ [RIP Radio]

thanks for the info Shy29..
So what do you call it when you convert your RGB cables to VGA using a VGA box.. VGA is 640x480 so what would that be equal too in HD terms??
480p 480i??
I have a 200" Projector which has SVideo and VGA Inputs which i was positive was HD as it supported screen res up to 1024.. Am i right in saying that it is HD??
Anyway, thanks for the info guys.. Hopefully in the next few short months i will be joining you all with your HD games with my new HDTV..
I think it depends on how you have your monitor set up. Interlaced refreshes every other line each cycle and progressive refreshes every line every cycle. AI think most monitors are progressive.
As far as your projector...I think its HD. How many video cables do the VGA cables have? _________________ Xbox 360 #2

3 x rows of pins in the VGA input (15 in total)..
ive even gone and dug out the old manual lol heheh

It is a digital projector so im sure its HD.. Has to be..
It was worth a fortune.. lol.. Ive just never really had the time to play.. As always..
Manufacture: BENQ
Model:PB7220
Maximum size: 300" inch
The projector is capable of displaying various High Defination TV display modes. Some of these sources are:
- Digital VHS (D-VHS)
- Satellite (HDTV)
- DVD Player
- DTV Tuners
Most of these sources mentioned will provide an analog component video output, a standard VGA output, or a TPbPr (default) dormat.
The projector is capable of accepting HDTV data through a YPbPr connector. UUse a HDTV cable that cam with your projector to display HDTV images..
The following standards are supported in HDTV format:
- 480i
- 480p
- 720p
- 1080i

Another thing i dont understand ok.. Is that i have a HD VGA type connector for my projector which is what i need to connect to my xbox i think for HD.. (correct)?
The thing is it has a VGA adapter with only half of the pins on one end and then it goes to the YCbCr style RCA's (3 of them)..
How do i go about connecting my xbox.. I have the av pack which supports digital 5.1 and svideo but i dont see how im going to use this HD VGA type connector..
Or should i just continue using SVIDEO like i have been?
let me know if you have any info for me and thanks for reading.

Hey, the VGA to component adaptor has female RCA's, right? If so you just need to go out and buy the AV HD cables that have component connectors.
Though I think I read somewhere that you can't purchase that in Aust. because of the PAL Xbox's lacking high definition support. (still sell them over here [U.K.] even though most people won't even have HD supported on their Xbox, ridiculous omission)
If you can't buy them just get them off of the internet, and to enable HD on a PAL Xbox just change the video mode to NTSC.
Hope that helps. And no more S-video! Especially at 100" [jealous ], standard definition TV that size can't be a good thing.

Hey, I'm awaiting the same thing from Lik-sang. Along with an Xbox controller to PC adapter and PS2 component cables, those two I got free using payback points.
My set should get here soon, bit of a long shot, but has anyone had any experience with the Dell W2600? Quality price and inputs, though wondered how much it's mediocre response time (25ms) would affect gaming.
