Hi, first time poster, long time reader..

A long while ago, I was very content with owning two xboxes and not having to find a reason to modify them.. That was of course, until one of them failed.

I received one xbox as a gift during their first release date (so it is the original black one - 1st generation)... and I bought a 2nd one for the purpose of playing halo with a bunch of my friends. The 2nd xbox is actually the halo special edition. etc... Green xbox. Well, everything was fine and dandy for a while.. And i loved my two xboxes like i would my own children.. bought games.. Whatever.

So then Halo 2 Comes out... Thats when my trouble began. I began playing halo 2 on my green xbox and shortly after my first xbox live game.. It screwed up my xbox. Let me elaborate..

Once i was done with my first game, it locked up on the postgame carnage report. I, of course, patiently waited assuming it was a bug; UNfortunately, this was not the case as for 6 whole minutes in their entirity, it didn't flinch. Thusly, i pushed the power off button like anyone else would, and upon turning it back on, everything had seemed to had been working fine. Then my roommate came in and decided he wanted to compare some of the things from halo 1 to halo 2. So i pushed the eject button thinking that would work.. and thats when it didn't. The light over the eject button lit up as if it was going to open, but it didn't at all. Right after, the DVD-drive made a bunch of whirring noises as if the part was going bad..Then the game locked up again. This time, to a black screen.

Mind you, neither of my xboxes are modded. I was doing what any normal gamer would.

From this moment on, i assumed my DVD drive was a failed piece of equipment, so i decided that eventually i would buy another xbox, or another drive, and replace the faulty drive (seeing as how i was past MS's warranty.) on my green xbox.

So finally, two days ago, i went out and bought another xbox to of course change out the drives.. My train of thought was, i can replace the drives, and send the "new xbox" back (to a retail store) with a faulty dvd drive in which MS can have back and I can keep my green xbox. (MS also stated to honor any work, that they wouldn't send you the green case back; If i paid.)

So now that i had a plan in place, i took action. I opened up the new xbox to notice almost everything was similar as my green one, minus the motherboard. So i changed the drive and put them back together. I tried out the new drive with the green xbox setup. Unfortunately, it did the same thing. It turned on, checked everything internally... it worked.. Then popped in a game. This time it was I-Ninja. It played for a good while... Then i hit the eject button and it locked up, just like before. So then i was left to change out everything except the hard drive (I wanted to keep my saves, and possibly softmod)...

What led me to change out the rest of the parts were posts/tutorials i've read on this site and on Llama's xbox repair site.

So i went back and opened up both xboxes and saw thier differences..

The controller port for 1&2 were a little shorter on the new xbox than they were on my green... Mainly it was the placement on where the port was in the board. Regardless, i figured i could just put it together and it should work if any other part was faulty....

So here was the setup. The new black Xbox - Had a philips dvd rom drive (from the original green one), The older motherboard from the same xbox, seagate hard drive (which came with it) and the older power supply.

THe green one now had - THe H-L Dvd rom drive ( from the new xbox), Western digital hard drive ( as it was bought from before), And the new motherboard and the new power supply (delta.)

The black xbox didn't have controllers 1/2 plugged in because it didnt reach on the board. BUt i figured it was probably going to show some error... Which was fine, i didn't want this box anyway.

So i turned on the the BLACK one, only to see that it turned on normally but gave an error about it needing to go back to service.. WHich was fine, it worked, I put in a game in the dvd rom drive, and let it spin, and spin and spin, and then turned it off and on.. everything. It all worked. SO i moved on and tried the green xbox. It didn't even turn on.

I immediately thought it was the power switch. So i checked that. Everything was fine with it... I switched the setup yet again to test it.. and the green case still works...

Now im left without a decision on what could very well be the problem...

All i want to know is, if anyone has any suggestions, and if the hard drive could be a potential issue? Seeing as how thats the only thing i havn't replaced.

Hello...

Sounds like a bit of an issue you have there, unfortunately I have no idea on how to help, but hopefully some of our other members might...

Hope you managed to get it sorted out.

just tried a few more swaps.. Still nothing, I can't get either xbox on now... ... I guess ill return it and try it again..*sigh*.. If there was an easy way to remove the green case.. I could easily swap that.. But the damn chassis has to be glued to the damned thing.
