Hello there, I'm having problems upgrading my OS. I'm kind of, I mean I AM a noob at this stuff but enjoy messing around with electronic components. I tend to get a little frustrated when I play online hockey (2K5) and I sit right next to my xbox, lets just say the controller doesn't take all the abuse. I've wrecked two xbox's by hitting them or gving them a little toss. Both times they wouldn't just break on the point of contact, rather they gradually went over the span of about a week. It would make this wierd ticking sound then eventually just get the repair screen (don't even remember the # of error) I came to realize it was the HDD's that fuk'd up and the rest of my box was fine. So I took it all apart not knowing anything about them and thought I must of wrecked some components some how, I left it sitting all open in the corner of my basement for about a year. Just last week was when I busted the second one (f#&@) so a couple days ago I bought my third xbox. But I still had all these parts. So I decided to get a chip but didn't wanna have to solder anything. So I pick up the Xenium Ice and solderless adapter and 1 stock HDD (all for $100 CAD) I get home not having a clue on how to install this then I find out I have two V1.6 xbox's. Shit now I couldn't install without soldering. But I remembered the old scrap board just sitting unprotected out in the open. Its a V1.1 So I took the Used unlocked stock HDD (that I just bought) and took the phillips DVD drive from my greenV1.6 (that i just busted) I put this all together with the bottom black/top green case. Got that mod on properly after many tries (that fuk'n ground for the led was a bitch for me, I ended up puting it right under the solderless connect) And the fuk'n thing worked I still can't believe it. I always thought M$ made kinda cheap shit but what that motherboard had went through and still fired up to work like new I have a whole new respect for M$. I really like these mod chips aswell but I can't really compare it to another. Oh shit kinda lost myself there. I'm having troubles with upgrade to 2.30 OS if anyone would help that would be great thanks. Sorry for the rant

Download the newest OS 2.3.0 in the .ISO format.
Burn the ISO using DVD Decrypter (Free download) to a DVD-R disk.
Make sure you have a working hard drive that has all of the MS files and structure still intact connected to your xbox. Otherwise, this will fail.
Put the DVD in the Xbox DVD Drive and at the Xenium Ice OS menu select recovery.
You will see a picture of the Xenium blue mod chip on your screen, and then the system will look to the E drive for the upgrade. When it doesn't find it, it will then look to the CD drive and it will say, "Got from CD".
The green eject light will begin to flash red/green and the whole system will shut down when done.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I've tried this before and when I hit recovery my system will just shut down and I have to move the switch on the chip to get her to boot again. I also just realized that I was sold the Xecuter 2X solderless adapter and used that with the Xenium ice. The only difference i can see in the adapters is that the Xenium Ice one has a wire from a pin to the D0 wire while the Xecuter 2X does not, and that one is black(Xecuter) and the other blue(Xenium). Could this be the reason I'm having troubles? My xbox would blink all kinds of colours(red, orange, and green) when I tried to first get her going. Just how important is it (when upgrading OS) to have all the proper xbox files? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks alot for your help.
BTW besides the upgrading OS thing she's running flawlessly _________________ Xbox V1.1 Xenium ice solderless 2.3.0/OS

To my experience there is a problem with the Xenium 2.3 ISO. I could never get it to work, and I’ve heard a few other comments the same as well.
Also many colors when starting the XOS is normal.
As for the Xecuter Adaptor, I dunno, I can’t say I have ever touched anything made by Team Xecutor. I’m not hatin, I’ve just been happy enough with the ICE chips I haven’t wanted to try anything else. But I can tell you about this...
---Prep Work---
Ok, you said that you have attempted to install XOS 2.30; last time I did it wrong I was left with no Xenium OS. I haven’t seen you mention whether or not this is happening, just in case though, ill cover it. If when you turn your Xbox on with recovery mode "off" and get a XOS, then skip this step.
Got to www.TeamXodus.com and download the ISO of the XOS 2.1
Now use the method that TheModGod described above to burn the disk. Decrypter and Nero are both good, but Decrypter is free. I also recommend using a DVD-R disc.
Now make sure the switch on your ICE chip is in the recovery mode. And the DVD-R with 2.1 is in the DVD player.
Now turn that suka on.
The next section deals with what you see when updating. When you are done updating turn off the recovery switch and boot the Xbox to the XOS normally.
---What it looks like when updating---
Like ModGod said, when done the Eject LED will flash red-green then turn itself off.
Before that your ICE chip will flash several different colors, slowly or quickly.
But even more important while updating, be patient. If it doesn’t update immediately walk out of the room and come back in 15 minutes.
You want the Xbox to turn itself off; if it turns itself off then the update is successful. Only manually turn off the Xbox as a last resort.
A flashing RED eject button means update failed. You may have to try two or three times to get it to work.
---Actually installing XOS 2.3 ---
Install Xbox Media Center if you haven’t already. You'll want to anyway
Make sure you grab a copy of teh newest build from the usual places. The 04/15/2005 build is good.
Download the HDD version of XOS 2.3 and un-rar.
Now use Xbox Media Center to FTP it to the root folder of the C: Drive and E: drive.
<-I know they say all you need to do is have "recovery.bin" in E: root, but its better to be safe>
Do not use the Xenium OS FTP or UnleashX FTP, I haven’t tried with Evox, don’t care to experiment. But the XOS FTP for some reason won’t transfer the recovery file correctly.
--Ok, so at this point you have "recovery.bin" installed on your HDD--
Boot back up to the XOS menu.
Select "Recovery" from the menu.
Start the recovery process.
(Read the above section on recovery)
Let Xbox turn off by itself...
And TADA! You have XOS 2.3!
As simple as brain surgery!
But surgeons got nothing on this! _________________ -Scourge "Rx = +/_\"

Thanks alot guys I've upgraded to 2.2.1 one at a time from 2.0.1 using iso. I tried the 2.3.0 iso but it seems to be bunk. Now I've got the latest media center and I'm just gonna give her a shot right now thanks again scourge I'll let you know if it works for me. _________________ Xbox V1.1 Xenium ice solderless 2.3.0/OS

Sweeeeet, it all worked I am now running 2.3.0. Do you know where to put skins so I can change them from the OS? Same with LED's? Thanks. _________________ Xbox V1.1 Xenium ice solderless 2.3.0/OS

Shoot, I cannot remember that directory you have to create...
But, you have to create the folder on your E drive I do remember that.
It was something like E:/Xenium/Skins
I am pretty sure that's it, but I'll look around. I know there is a post about it on teamxodus.com _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

Nope, I was wrong.
E:/xeniumos
That should be the folder you create, and then you put the skins in there. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

Hey no sweat man, Im glad I can help through my experences!
BTW the newest build of XBMC is pretty neat so its worth having anyway
Now if only they can get the LED to be able to change colors outside of the XOS, that would be DA BOMB! _________________ -Scourge "Rx = +/_\"

Just to clarify for anyone else for your skins and led's to work (for me anyways) with media center go to my files then E drive and create new folder name it xeniumos (like ModGod said) to get it to work for me I had to have a skins folder as well so E:/xeniumos/skins and for the led's do the same but use leds instead of skins - E:/xeniumos/leds. I know everyone probally already knows this, just saying what worked for me. Thanks again for all the help guys, I wanna give the soldering a go so if you have any opinions on which chip is easier to solder (On V1.4) throw em my way. (I was looking into the Xecuter 3ce or WeverTF its called. Thanks _________________ Xbox V1.1 Xenium ice solderless 2.3.0/OS

Its good that you posted that, Your title to this thread is very descrpitive to the problem, so anyone in the future witht he same prob will most likely find this thread when they run a search, so including all the details is a good thing
As for the 1.4 its not too different from the 1.0 as for soldering from my understanding.
While I have never used a Xecuter I think that there are more pins to solder than the Xenium.
At least that my assumation. I needed to find out where to connect to the Lan status LED and I found it in a Xecuter Tutorial, Im not sure if installing it involves that, but I do know youll have to take the motherboard to do it.
See if you can find a tutorial or namual on the Xecuter website on installing to a 1.4 and compare it to the Tutorial on www.TeamXodus.com
I would like to tell you whats easier but that answer is completely objective. _________________ -Scourge "Rx = +/_\"

Well I soldered my V1.4 with success , I just used the pinheader from my Xenium ice chip(I had it still from the solderless install) and used the D0 on bottom of motherboard. I just took my chip and put it in the V1.4 and took the HDD from my V1.1 and made my V1.4 a working Xbox with the option of just slipping on a chip(any chip that will fit on that pin header). Thanks for all the help, I couldn't of done all this stuff without it. _________________ Xbox V1.1 Xenium ice solderless 2.3.0/OS
