Info that I have obtained during my travels. It definitely helps. Now keep in mind that these are only suggestions based on others experiences. I nor any other member of Xbox-hq.com will accept responsibiilty for anything that you do to your machine as the result of following a tutorial and/or forum post. There are only suggestions based on others successes. We cannot possibly forsee everything that can go wrong with an Xbox.
Here's two easy ways to keep from accidentally logging onto XBOX Live with the modchip enabled and running Evox:
The first requires a router or another DHCP server running on the network. For me I have a router that plugs directly into my cable modem. You then setup your xbox live account to use automatic IP configuration.
Next you need to edit your evox.ini file. You need to set Evox to use a static IP (which is what most of you probably already do so as to be able to easily ftp to it. Just make sure that the DNS entry is either empty or better yet pointed to an ip that is not the router or a dns server. This will keep you from being able to log into live if you boot up into evox first.
Now everytime that you boot up, make sure that there is no disc in the drive. It only takes a couple of extra seconds and there's no way to get banned. When evox loads, it overwrites xbox-lives settings with its settings in the .ini file. Thus when you start a game with the modchip turned on, the settings are not correct and it will keep you from accidentally accessing xbox live.
The only downside is that everytime that you have booted up into evox, you are going to have to reset the settings for xbox live, but it is simply just three clicks away. Simply start up the game you want to play and try to access live. When that fails and it asks if you want to troubleshoot, select yes.
After selecting yes and you see the xbox live video, choose settings, then pick ip addesses, then simply press a when on configuration and keep pressing b until you exit back into your game. Its that easy.
While this method takes a little longer on bootup and can be annoying if you switch the modchip on and off a lot, to me its worth the security in knowing that I will never be banned from xbox live.
The second easy option can work with the above, but does require a little more attention, and this is simply using XBTools to change the color of the front led to red. What this does is let me know instantly whether the modchip bios is on or the standard by looking at the front led. If the front is red, then I know that I shouldn't try to log onto xbox live. While I also implement the above, its yet another layer between me getting banned.
I won't go into how to use XB tools because there are already other tutorials out there on how to use it.
