After having trouble with SID v1 / MechAssault not completing the install I sourced v1.01 and gave it a try...
It passed the dashboard install but still did not complete...
It failed with a script error when trying to patch the MS dashboard...
It listed last action as a rename failure...
I pulled up the xml to see what it was looking for and completed the last few steps manually...and it all works as it is supposed to - nice job!
Here is what caused the failure...in the last section it renames the fonts folder to fonts-modded then restores the MS backup...problem...my MS backup did not have a fonts folder...so when the next step was to rename fonts to f0nts and fonts-modded to fonts - it failed. I just made a second copy of the fonts-modded folder and did the renaming myself, then renamed the xbes as per the xml, and extracted and ran the patch through the file manager....
This should be a quick fix in the xml file...if f0nts is not referenced by the renamed dash that command could just be eliminated...if it is a line could be added to simply make a second copy of the starting fonts folder...
I am not sure if this is only related to the MechAssault ver of the install, or if it only applies to this particular xbox...in any event, that is the problem I found and how I fixed it.
With any luck it will save the next person who encounters this glitch some time...
Thanks for building this wicked little app!

Was it dash 5960 ? I'm pretty sure it had a fonts folder, and that's the only version that I know of that will work with the patch.

Not sure...the docs with the original post I had seen said to be sure and run a recent game to update the msdash to 5960...I threw Burnout 3 in...ran it...run a couple scenarios...killed it...did the same again...after that I assumed it updated it and carried on...
The patch did run without issue once I completed the other steps and ran it manually...and it works well...I am very happy with the results! Much quicker and easier than the last couple hardware mods I've done...
I can have a look in the backup folder - is there is an easy way to check ver #? ie, filesize etc?

The first thing to look at is a folder that is on c drive, it is called something like this:
xboxdashdata.xxxxxxxx
Can u tell me the version number of that folder?

Hmm. Unless it is invisible to the File Manager the only folder that shows in the original MS Backup created by the installer is "Audio". I will drag a network cable over and FTP into it - see if anything else shows...
Is it possible the backup feature of SID v1.0 missed a couple things first run?

Nope because it only does these things:
* Clear Backup area for the MS backup
* Copy C Drive to the MS Backup
this is 2 commands being used, so the backup phase basically just copies you C drive to E:\Backup\MS.

Alright...then one must conclude that this particular xbox did not have a fonts folder or an xboxdashdata folder...not sure on the version number, gave it back to the buddy I was doing it for - he's had it a year and a half or so...
I have one more system yet to do but no rush on it...it is a v1.0 console...
Is there any way to change the script so that if the fonts folder is not present it either creates it from the modded source or in the very least completes the rest of the steps without stalling?
I'll hold off on the softmod and give either the next release of SID a try...

The version of the MS Dash I have on Auto-installer deluxe DOES have a fonts folder, this is why I made the softmod installer specifically to work with it.
So, here's a way you can overcome this:
1) Install a softmod on your xbox, don't worry about the MS Dash
2) Boot Auto-Installer Deluxe
3) Either using FTP or the File Manager, delete ALL files from C Drive.
4) Install the MS Dash from Auto-Installer Deluxe
5) Reboot
6) Install softmod again (since it was wiped previously)
7) NOW install the MS 5960 patch
Everything should now run flawlessly...
