Hi everyone, i hope this is in the right place cuz it was the best i could think of. Anyway, I want to start learning to make homebrew programming on consoles. Ive learned some of the basics, and i have a background in Python and a little C++. Anyway, I dont really want to learn to program for my xbox as it is so late in the xbox 1's life and when the xbox next is released i wanna start with it from the same time as everyone else. Does anyone have any idea on when an Xbox Next Developing Kit might be released ?

Thanks.
- Xaej

Hi Xaej,

Your right in saying you should'nt bother learning xbox 1 development at such a late time but really i would still suggest you have a play with it.
More just compiling other users code (conigmagif etc etc) and getting it to run on your xbox with a modchip or softmod. Smile

I can guarantee you that the development process will be roughly the same as xbox 1..

Example being the tools needed to develop:
- A Modded Xbox running the Debug Bios
- Microsoft Visual Studio .net
- Xbox SDK installed
- and the Xbox Dev Kit Dashboard install on your xbox.

Thats why i was so interested in only coding a small intro.. JUst to get the basics down.. Im guessing here but i can only imagine its going to get easier to code for as it progresses.. The libraries in the current XDK are already top notch.

about the xbox 2 XDK.. I wish i could say mate.. But unfortunately we are all in the same boat with that one..

regards from australia,

forahobby

Unless your working for the Xbox team/Microsoft I don't think anybodys going to know when they send out the dev kits. Even if so, not just your average consumer can buy one, if you have enough money and know who to get a hold of though you can. Because I remember when the xbox came out they offered xdks but youd have to contact them with your info like what your going to do with it and then they'll decide if you get one or not.

That sounds reasonable enough. I'm not sure how they redistribute the XDK, but I do know that the "official" site (a subdomain of xbox.com i believe) requires authentication before gaining access. This site contains all of the information related to development with the xBox, including release notes and examples.
