...for playback!
i'll explain!
normally, i dump a retail disk UNPATCHED then FTP/rebuild it back as an iso (xiso) and archive it!
before i send that iso back over (as content) to the hdd, i extract it's "xbe" and patch it, basically, a patched xbe exists aside the iso in archive!
(the full original dump + xbe at it's side)
THIS time, i made the GRAVE error of sending the CLEAN iso content over WITHOUT replacing the default.xbe for the patched version......
BIG MISTAKE! BIG BIG MISTAKE!
the f*ckin console sits in BSOD mode for ten to twenty minutes looking like a temp brick but what it does is F*CK the E:/ volume ENTIRELY forcing me to format it clean again!
NOTE this is trying to run an UNPATCHED game, normally i create a patched xbe and send it soon after but i forgot and it f*cked me!
so basically, if your dumping for the sake of archiving, the way i described works best BUT if you just wanna play the game, use the dvd copy feature in UNLX as this can be set to "auto patch xbe" as it wraps up copying the disk!
for playing a clean dump that's sat on your computer, unless it's going to be on a backup disk, extract the xbe and PATCH it then FTP/overwrite the older non patched xbe! (i use "C-XBox Tool 2.06" to create a patch as well as all the other FTP actions to and from the xbox)
............
REMEMBER!
PATCH XBE FIRST OR IT'LL F*CK YOU IN THE E:/ VOLUME, ALL OF IT FORCING YOU TO DA$H FORMAT IT CLEAN AGAIN!
THE TEMP (10/20 MIN) BSOD CAPITALISES ON THE E:/ VOLUME FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON...IT'S NOT COOL AND I COULD UNDERSTAND IF SOMEBODY TRASHED THEIR XBOX BECAUSE OF THIS!
FOR HDD PLAYBACK OF A CLEAN RETAIL DUMP, PATCH FIRST OR DIE!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
...................
(for any naysayers, SAVE IT! this BSOD shit fucks the E:/ volume REGARDLESS of where that clean dump was played from!
done multiple tests at the wear and tear of the hdd and the last test was carried out in location G:/root) Mad
Evil or Very Mad
[edit]
typo!
i meant F:/ volume that gets killed...

thanks for the headsup. I've never done that myself, but i can just imagine how frustrating it was. A great thread for everyone to read! Smile

LMAO cant believe I missed this thread. Clean dumps ARE NOT the enemy. There is how ever a very short list of games M$ changed the XBE on. It was the last ditch effort to kill softmod before the clarity of they cant win set in. They REQUIRE a 5960.2 dash and auto run update.xbe which WILL overwrite your C. I never patch my games, Ux and every NKP Ive seen going back like 6 years can spoof the media flag on the fly removing any need for patch for from HDD play. Just look at my game dumps Amiga. No Old_Default.xbe, or Orig_Default.xbe etc yet they play from disc or HDD fine. Its because they are a clean dump and your mod is patching on the fly. Not sure for the chippers since thats a dirty lazy area in my eyes lol.

If you use Configmagic to NTSC flash your eeprom chip your XBOX will use the 5960.2 dash I put in all softmod installers. Thus removing any worry.

yes i do remember the problems the softmod guys were having with some games.. Exactly as you say too.. Updating their C:\ lol.. yeh has no effect on anyone with a modchip, you just pop in AID or any other disc and it will boot past any errors. You don't even need a HDD installed with some bioses i think. (god its been ages).

In the old days i used to always rip my games using DVD2XBOX which auto patches them anyway.

Confused
well, i'm NOT getting into any arguments...and i never said clean dumps were the enemy!
all i was doing was WARNING other potential "common sense" users of the hazards i faced!
1, playing a non-patched clean content dump fucked my F:/ volume, simple! (yes, this was on the babylon mod too)
2, of all the consoles i've messed with, the xbox is without a doubt, the MOST unforgiving i've ran into....
i mean that the mod can f#&@ in too easily, not the mod process! (which is why i STILL want a real hardmod so i don't have to worry)
3, this thread would be non-existent if i could just get the clean 1/1 content rips to work! (aside a pre-patch)
....
nothing else for me to add here!
i've had MASSIVE issues when using clean 1/1 content rips and some usb cards, YES, a ten-min BSOD just like i explained above!
(PS: enigmah was set at NTSC-U before running the clean 1/1 content rips and made NO difference where i was stood, didn't stop this BSOD shit from happening!)
Crying or Very sad
[edit]
all my tests and failures were carried out from my own retail disks, NOT other items i have or was given, just my own disks!

Running Enigmah isnt the same as a NTSC system. It just changes your eeprom flag in memory. To run the 5960.2 dash you actualy have to flash the eeprom chip itself with the flag change. And just an FYI shit like this can happen with a hardmod too lol. Chips dont lock out F drive etc. WHat fucks your F on soft will f#&@ it on a hardmod too. And you want unforgiving try TSOP, when the flash gets corrupted its virtualy impossible to fix short of buying a chip.

Edit
And you should know me better than that to think Im trying to shit on your pillow Amiga LMAO. Just explaining why what happened happened. M$ never released a 5960.2 in PAL regions, most likely since it sold in Euro-land like a hooker with herpies. If I had a PAL system I could probably figure a work around so that you guys could run unpatched games from HDD like us NTSC guys can. I dont wanna run off half cocked and just hand you maybe's to test that could cook your system. I think maybe Im gonna have to send you some cash and get you to grab me a PAL XBOX and PAL SC and ship em to me.
