I'm planning to compile a ZSNEXBOX DVD with ROMs and am wondering if I can still use save states.

Again, I am running the emulator off the DVD and not on the hard drive.

I don't see any problem. As long as the emulators can be configured via a .xml or .ini file of somekind.. Most of the emus can. Anyone else?

It varies on how the emulator was programmed. Best way to find out is to simply try. I would believe it would work as it probably uses the gamesave which is saved on your hard drive to store the save state information. Although if it tries to save the game state on the DVD it would not work for obvious reasons.
