Ok, id like to just tell you a few things to make it more clear to you.
There are several ways to go about modding your xbox, but only 3 types of mods.
Modchip: You can solder it, get a solderless adapter. You can use any IDE hard drive with it(locking or non-locking).
Softmod: You can hotswap your hdd to get the files on it, you can use gamesave exploits, but you have to have a hard drive with locking abilities. Any IDE interface HDD will work as long as its lockable.
TSOP Flash: Here what yo0u do is solder a couple points together on your motherboard and it allows you to flash the onboard BIOS chip with hacked BIOS. Any hdd will due here as well(lockable or non-lockable).
The best way in all opinion is a modchip soldered in, as it makes sure your xbox will not crash on you.
After modding your xbox download the xbox-hq auto-installer deluxe which will install hacked dashboards for your pleasure. Just read up on the 3 methods i told you about and see which one fits you most. There are tutorials all over the site on how to do each of these mods, just keep in mind to read EVERYTHING several times b4 you attempt a mod or you may not like the end result. _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

...and before doing any mod, always back up! We can't count the number of times/people who wished they had

First off welcome to the forums. second if your thinking of modding here are some videos that might help, the first 4 are from the old show the screen savers n the last 2 is from the podcast DL.TV.
i recommend watching the videos n asking about what ever u are wondering about but remember to check the forums first to see if somebody else asked the same thing n got help.

what r the TSOP solder points for a v1.6 & v1.0 xbox to flash the bios with evolution x, and cromwell linux
@ Crackface
Theres no TSOP chip to flash on a 1.6v console (I think its embedded in the video chip - theres no way to `write` to it).
Soldering the flash enable points on a version 1 - 1.1 mobo is quite simple, check this out for instructions :
http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/TSOP_flashing_HOWTO
If your gonna flash a 1.0 or 1.1 the best bios is probably the x2 5035 (use the 1mb version (for consoles v1.2 - 1.5 use the evo m8 256kb bios)
If you flash your console with the Linux Cromwell bios you wont be able to play any xbox games
The only option for 1.6 consoles is either a softmod or modchip with lpc rebuild. _________________

well i have my v1.6 softmodded so i just thats ok, and i know i can't play any games onc romwell, that's wat my v1.6 is for, i just want to run linux programs on my other xbox, wats the difference between a evo bios and a x2, i never used a x2 before and on the link u sent me, it says add another 5-volts is it's a sharp bios brand, how do u tell if it ism so i won't fry the shit out of it,
The size of the bios is the only difference, they both do the same job - I mention these two different bios because they are the most up to date, you have to be carefull flashing v1.2 - v1.5 consoles with 256kb TSOP due to the different video chips used, both these bios have support for all video chips
you could make the evo 256kb bios into one big 1024kb one to suit the v1.0 - v1.1 TSOP (its just personal preference - The xecuter X2 bios is off the xecuter x2 range of modchips, and has a subtle little `xecuter` logo, the Evo bios is a bit more `in your face` with that horrible purple big `EVO` badge)
(you can run linux on your xbox without the cromwell bios - so you can run your linux programs and play xbox games)
And, have a look at the TSOP chip, it`ll have markings telling you what brand it is (heres a pic of a sharp one for reference).

For simplicity, ease of use and installation, you can't go past an Xecuter 3. It's been nearly 4 years since I installed mine, and it hasn't missed a beat - well worth the money _________________
