I don't like to use surge protectors myself. I've found they extend the life of my laptops too much. They need to crap out before my 3 year service contract expires.
I'm hoping this one will last about 1 more year, then I'll get a newer one. I traded in a sweet, but motherboard-eatin' (4 in 2 years) Sony Vaio. Got an even sweeter Toshiba Satellite. For my dead machine and less than $100, I got much bigger monitor, 3x larger HDD, built-in wifi, much quicker processor, and more.

Man I'm heaps sorry to hear this. I thought this is what you said on the phone, but the line was so soft and crackly in bits I couldn't make it all out.
Holy shit, what can I say??
If the PC in the lounge room here worked I'd loan it to you, but something went up with it a few months ago. There's about 192mb SDRAM in it but I'm figuring you'll end up geting a board with DDR.
Also, if you want me to help you with VIP memberships etc over this time just let me know. I can try and keep the ball rolling whilst you're out of action, or atleast lighten the burden of you having to try and do it all at work.
I sorta know how you feel, coz I thought I lost my ADSL Router/Switch that night too, the memory got corrupted on it. I have been lucky enough just to reset it. Does any lights or anything show on your Modem at all, maybe we can do something to fix it...
Sorry that I haven't been able to really keep in touch much over the few days, might try and come pay you a visit on wednesday.
Like I said, anything I can do let me know...

Yea, it definately was a strom I won't forget for a while. Some of the memories I have of that night are:
* Hail lined up across the back fence in a big thick line (stood out so much even with the back light off, hehehe).
* Hail all over the front and back lawn, we had a storm like this about a year ago or so and I saw something similar to this, but it wasn't as much as last week.
* Practically next to no visbility outside looking at my girl's car parked out the front of my place (even with the lightning)
Man, it was scary. Funny enough I love watching this kind of weather though, all I kept saying was "Holy shit, this is a good one tonight"...
