Well The Xbox can read normal DVDa like moviea and games. However when It some to running apps or games an unmodded xbox can only run signed code and therefore can't play copies or something onsigned by Microsoft. Most people put Evox on a CD-RW after they mod their Xbox. Nowadays games like Nightfire and Mech Assault have been used by a group called Free Xbox enabling a buffer overrun allowing unsigned code to be played during this error and therefore allowing Evox to be run. This Pheonix loaded is a good thing to use and their are a lot of tutorials. Also you can flash your onboard TSOP allowing you to Mod your box without a Modchip although you really need a Matrix to do this.
