Ok I'm really sorry for the caps but you have no idea what i get out of this if i succeed, with everybody's help of course.
I recently soft modded a friends xbox but when she came home from work one night, her nephew had been pressing the wrong buttons and now she continually gets the error 21 message. Now none of her games will load up and i'm finding it difficult to FTP into her xbox.
I need to know if this has happened to anyone before and how they fixed it.
I need to know if anyone at all knows how to fix it, no matter how, just please tell me how to fix it and help me to fix my friends.
Please any help at all would be excellent.

ok i've googled hot swap now and i've been on about 30 different pages. I don't understand what is going on, I need a step-bystep guide on how to fix it.

ok I think I know what the hot swap is but there are a few problems with that, the main one being that I'm still new to this and I'm not confident enough to either destroy her xbox or my pc, or both at the same time.
Is there any other way to fix it? Remember I can't ftp to my pc, neither will the xbox play games.
Is there a step by step guide to hot swapping anywhere, complete with diagrams or pictures, so I at least have aclue with what I'm doing.

How did you softmod it... Probably not from the xbhdm since you said you didnt want to use your PC... Did you do it using a chip modded Xbox?
If you did use a chip modded xbox then you should have saved the eeprom for the other xbox. All you have to do is change your Chipped box's eeprom to that of the other Softmod's. Then put the Softmod's HDD in the Chipped Xbox, use AID and do an entire reformat of the HDD. Replace the HDD in the softmodded Xbox and re-softmod it. Then, change your chipped box's eeprom back to the origonal.

Here is a short tutorial that I made up a while ago... This will work with your error code as well.
I had: 1 busted softmod box (dash error 16)
1 eeprom backup of sofmod box (in file named softeeprom)
1 chip modded box
1 laptop
a copy of config magic
a copy of flashfxp (ftp program on pc)
This is how I fixed my box.
I turned on the chipped box and ftp'd into it using flashfxp (alternativly you could use any ftp program to do this) I then found the "ConfigMagic" folder under my "Apps" folder... within this folder is another called "Data" whithin that folder are some files...i.e. eeprom.bin, and eeprom.cfg... I copied these files to the laptop in a file named "chippedboxeeprom". After that I deleted the files "EEPROM.bin and EEPROM.cfg" from the chipped box, and replaced them with the softmod backups "EEPROM.bin and EEPROM.cfg" from here I didn't turn off the box or disconect from the ftp I just went on the xbox itself and ran ConfigMagic
When in ConfigMagic I preformed these steps:
1 Unlock HD
2 Load eeprom from .bin file
3 Update xbox eeprom
4 Load xbox eeprom
5 Lock HD
When this was completed I could now take the softmodded hdd and put it directly into the chipped box. because the chipped box is basically a mirror image of the softmod box now, it can unlock and lock the softmod box's hdd.
After the soft hdd was in the chipped box I just ran an auto installer disk (I used AID 101) and reformatted the entire hdd. I also added all the apps, emulators, and a hacked dashboard (avalaunch).
I then took the hdd out and put it back in the softmod box... and replaced the chipped box hdd. Ftp'd back into the chipped box and and replaced the eeprom.bin and eeprom.cfg with the chipped box's origanal eeprom files. Ran ConfigMagic and repeated steps 1 through 5... Now the chipped box is back to normal.
I did run into two problems, I'll go over them one at a time.
1. When I put the softmod hdd back in the softmod box it should have loaded up Avalaunch as the dashboard but it did'nt... It loaded up the original MSdash... so I had to preform the softmod on it utilizing a savegame exploit. (I used the Splinter Cell) while inside unleashX I applied the softmod and installed the evoxdash, and put the AID 101 disk back in, installed the hacked dashboard Avalaunch again, and it worked like a charm, everything that I had installed with AID in the chipped box was still on the hdd. PROBLEM FIXED...
2. After I had the hdd in and all was working well, I noticed that the hdd wasn't reading in full, it was a 250gig reading the f: at 124gig or somewhere close to that, and with the G: enabled all the G: showed was error. After thinking long and hard I remembered that there was a handy little tool called XBpartitioner. Using this program I set the F: to read around 250gigs. Problem solved.

I have had an error 21 many times and never expreienced it to not read ORIGINAL XBOX GAMES. You might just try to re softmod the system with whichever gamesave you used, the gamesave will still be on the system, you did not lose anything.... YET.....

hi i have had error all you need to do is put original game in either 007/splinter cell/mecha assault then load up the game exploit and re install the exploit
