it looks like the drive config is out of whack!
.....
use this...
dvd rom on first flyer, ide socket 1 (nearest to mb) and set that to SLAVE!
the hdd on the end of that same flyer, ide socket 2 and set that to MASTER!
....
MAKE SURE NO OTHER DEVICES/DRIVES ARE CONNECTED FOR USE WITH XBHDM!
power up computer and go direct to the BIOS/CMOS setup then have it auto-detect the drives, set the boot priority to CD-ROM ONLY!
disable ALL other boot followups!
just the CD-ROM is all you're booting from on this!
good luck! _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

then it's one of two things! (you said the hdd works the other way around)
the dvd-rom may not be compatible with the hdd on that config...VICE VERSA!
it's known to happen!
some devices DON'T like to work together! (i have a WD hdd that won't be visible if i use it on the same flyer as my toshiba cd-rom)
try another hdd or dvd-rom using the above steps!
...
take a look at this xbox hdd compatibility listing, it may help? (old but reliable)

i'm not sure, never heard of that happening before...
i thought it could be that the hdd isn't locked, but an error message would appear if that was the case?!
i've gotta ask because the info you provide is THIN so...
did you go through the whole 'eeprom.bin' bit? if so then chances are the hdd is FUCKED!
try another hdd!
more info please!
