No man, it must be chipped or soft-mod to run anything other then what the Xbox says it can do.

First of all thanks to everyone for all the help and support. This site has been very great.
Just a quick update. I managed to open up my xbox and clean the lens using a Q-Tip and acohol as advised but some of you here. Sure enough it worked saving me money from buying a 2nd hand dvd drive.
Continuing on with my original plan with XBMC and Emulators. Using AID i managed to install XBMC to my F: drive and sure enough was able to access it after rebooting my xbox and going to my programs folder.
After having that kinda success I thought about repeating the exact same process but with one of the emulators (xSnes9x) Though it did not appear in my programs section like XBMC did. How do I know if I successfully installed the emulator?

If you are running XBMC as your dash it will be in your emulator folder not the programs folder.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I read one of your previous posts in a thread relating to ROMs. Is ftp the only way to transfer. Is it also the easiest way? For some reason I was thinking I could simply just burn the ROMs and copy straight over like a normal computer now that I got XBMC working.

you can burn the roms in the form of a data cd then put the cd into your dvd drive and then use the xbmc file explorer to copy the roms right over to your roms folder in your snes emulator.

I followed the above steps. I copied the .zip folder over to the emulator. Now that's done I'm not sure how to access the game and play it to see if I was successful.

Hi djestar,
Can you post on where you are up to.. Do things in point form to make it easier for people to help you.
this is a example.
What i want
1. I want to play XSNES roms
2. My current dashboard is XBMC
What ive done so far
1. I have ftp into the xbox and copied the .zip roms into the /sdksl/suchandsuch/ directory.
2. I now booted the emulator but the roms dont show up
What I've done so far (thanks to the replies):
- installed emulators (eg. fc for NES) using AID to the E: drive
- using a data dvd copied .zip files via XBMC to the roms folder of the emulator
Problem:
- Do not know how to access the emulators (I'm using Evo X dashboard)
By copying the emulators from the emulator folder to the games folder I can now access the emulators. (Evo X dashboard > Games > fc NES)
I don't think this was the correct way though.[/b]
Hi,
To get your Emulators to show up in the Evox menu you will need to edit the Evox .ini file - FTP into your xbox, copy the ini file to your pc, open it with notepad and add emulators to the ini file :
Edit your ini file so it looks like above (with the inclusion of the `emulators` section) ....... Reboot and `Emulators` should show up in your menu structure (just like your programs)
OR install UnleashX as a dashboard rather than messing with Evox
(Evox was a great dashboard but UnleashX is by far better / noob friendly) _________________

The first option sounds like alot of work and I like the sound of option two.
Question:
1) Is installing Unleash X as easy as XBMC using AID?
2) Will installing Unleash X affect my current setup examples: game saves and menu layout etc...
your game saves shouldnt be affected, to be on the safe side backup your UDATA & TDATA folders to your PC.
If your machine has a Modchip installed & you boot straight to Evox (no MS dash) then just use the Modchip section in AID to install UnleashX to your C partition. _________________

I can confirm that my xbox boots to Evo X dashboard on startup.
Do I still have to backup my games, emulators and gave saves?
Your dashboard goes on C, as long as you are hard modded (Modchip or TSOP) sticking a new dash on there wont affect anything else.
Edit2add : If your still a bit cautious of messing around with the dash you could install `boxplorer` its a file manager that you could add to your `programs` that will allow you to navigate your hard drive and launch your Emulators that way. _________________
