Hello,
I am softmodding my xbox and upgrading to a new 160gb hdd. I got the softmodding part done with no problems but what do I do next? Do I just stick the new hdd in and format with AID? I'm not looking to go on live, and my new hdd is lockable. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to the HQ new guy, we hope you enjoy the site and all the other HQ sites we have to offer.
One thing you will need to do before you start building a big HDD is to FTP a copy of the eeprom for safe keeping on your PC.
When you got that backup we can go over the 2 best ways to build the larger HDD.
Once you have that and respond to this post i will be splitting this post to it own thread (titled: options for 250GB install) so the 2 posts in here don't get mixed up.

Thanks for the fast reply!
I got the eeprom as well as everything else in my c: and e: drive. For the softmod I used the splinter cell method if that makes any difference. I also have the dvd version of AID 4.2. If you need any other information please let me know.
Great forum for sure. It was here or xbox-scene that I was going to post at and I'm glad I chose this one. /stops brown nosing

Good deal then we can move this along and i will start with what i think is the easy way of the 2 options, You can chimp the drive by using this guide here: http://www.Xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-260.html but keep in mind if your xbox is a Ver. 1.6 you will need to telnet the Xbox and the guide has a link to how to do that.
Your second option for building a large HDD is with an App called xboxhdm, this is a good App to familiarize yourself with since its one of the few tools that will help fix a catastrophic failure of the Xbox and that guide is here: http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-185.html
(Xboxhdm works from your PC via a boot disk.)
If you need any more info or help just let us know man.

Ok I have everything in place but it seems Chimp does not like my 3rd party controllers. I cannot move at all and at app boot up linux spits out 'cannot find rescources' lines.
Now I'm trying to telnet in so I can control the program without the controller but I keep getting a 'no route to host' error. This only happens at the Chimp screen because on my dashboard I am able to connect using telnet right away with no error. Can it be a port I need to open? Does Chimp only accept the 192.168.0.3 ip?
Oh and I do have a v1.2-1.5 kernel.......... i just need to find a regular controller.

Sorry man I'm not to good with the telnet since i use xboxhdm for the 1.6 but let me know when you get a MS controller.
When you start modding its best to always have one laying around.

Chimp has been known to have issues with 3rd party controllers, resulting in errors and non-functionality.
If you have an MS controller (S or original type) you should use that for the process. I myself have an original S controller and a logic 3 controller. Chimp will not function with my 3rd party controller either, so its not just you.
It might be easier to borrow one, if you know anyone that has one and use the telnet method as a last resort.

You do seem to pop up when the chimp name is getting thrown around. LOL
Not much here unless you count getting a bum tooth patched and let me tell you man its going to be some time before it really feels any better.

lol, keep plugging away, you'll get there (or erase your HDD of course, lol).
There's a telnet guide link at the bottom of the Chimp tutorial, found under my sig if you haven't got one already.
As for FFVII:AC, it really helps if you follow FFVII, lol. Otherwise as my mum kept saying "I don't get it?!"
I got it!!! Telnet worked perfectly after I figured out how to use it. I now have a soft modded xbox with a 160gb hdd installed and running xbmc! Thanks to both of you guys and the person who wrote that tutorial on using telnet with chimp. cheers.
