I've just put XDK onto my PC running VS.net. I thought I'd try something simple and compile some code. I tried XBMC but when I open it it says "This is a version 7.1 project visual studio.net can only open version 7.0 projects" or something like that. Any ideas? I'd quite like to learn to code for the xbox but it seems I can't even get off the ground. Thanks. _________________ V1.4 Xbox

hi xboxhacker_uk,
It doesnt really matter what version the code was intially written in as long as its c++.. heheh lol.. Most code you will find is written in Visual Studio 6.0 but i havent had probs yet!
When you double click the .vcproj file it should ask you whether you want to convert it to the new version your using.. Just say 'yes'..
Just a tip:
If your compiling for the first time make sure you download some source code that is really small.. This will make it easy to troubleshoot if you come accross any linking problems when compilling your .xbe!
Sourcecode for the apps
- dvd2xbox-050-src
- ConfigMagic FINAL - SourceCode
are availble so probably start with these! The smaller the better.

Well I managed to get it to work. I thought afterwards that my choice of trying to compile XBMC first may not have been a wise one but I managed to get hold of a copy of vs.net professional 2003 and that does the job. Is there any tutorials out there to start me off in coding for the xbox? As I said I want to give it a go, is it just C++? _________________ V1.4 Xbox

hi mate,
Check the next forum under this one.. IM adding tutorial from my mates site Ben Kenwright who helped me learn to code XDK and not just COMPILE others source..
NO its not just c++ but thats all ive been working with lately..
Ben from http://xbdev.net has tonnes of samples..
Ben's also very good at explaining everything in simple terms and has given me his permission to add his tutorials to our site.. These should help you to no end and others..
anyway, go and have alook at all the prt tutorials i have added. They have a screenshot of what the code should look like when compiled and running on the xbox and also have the attached source code.
Hope to hear you start getting into it.. I only wish i had more time.. You would actually see some xbox applications coming from me.
Maybe we can get a little xbox coding team started and produce some apps.. Thats been my plan all along.. I want to code a XBOX MAGAZINE that boots on XBOX and updates from the internet.. Ill get there..

Thanks for that. I'll see if I can get to grips with it, and yeah a coding team sounds great. _________________ V1.4 Xbox

Hey,
heres a link to where i will be adding tutorials with source code and screenshots of what the code looks like when running on your xbox console... Please remember DO NOT ASK for the XDK..
I know you have already found them but others reading this thread will be looking. Im really keen to see how many guys i can teach and get a coding team together...

definintely won't be at xbins. try harder. I can't give you direct information, but try the sites that need something along the lines of Azereus to download.
I can't be of anymore help. _________________ XBOX v1.6

Hey Hobbs, I have got the Visual Studio .Net and the XDK 5933. I dont think it will work, but I will wait to hear from you.
But anyways, yea that would be great to start a coding team here at HQ. I know there is kinda one doing the AID discs and you doing the sites... But it would be great to have more things made here at HQ made by fellow HQ members. I am glad I have found this stuff, I was very fortunate. Once I get to grips with it all I hope to be able to join you coders out there and be able to offer a worthy input on all this stuff. Well, just wondering so thanks. _________________ Moddingbandit
