Ok, I got a wierd error on my brother-in-laws box. The DVD drive is pretty much fubared as I usually get dirty disc errors. However, I got a cool xbox animation that I had not seen before, and this this error. Any ideas?

That's odd that it says, "this is an xbox game disc" and to put it into your xbox. Well duh it's in the xbox, that's why I'm trying to play it!!?! WTF!?! Interesting, I'm curious to see if anyone else has seen this error. If you could reproduce the error and the animation, you should capture it via camcorder and upload it so we can take a peek. I've actually had this error back with my first 1.0 xbox, and this is gonna sound funny and weird.
the xbox will not boot xbox games as xbox games, it will boot them like DVD movies, and this is the same animation you'll get if you put the xbox game on a home DVD player or PC.
How did I fix it?
I connected my DVD Dongle on the 4th port, and it started reading the games as games again.

I've got the xbox through my video capture card, so if I get it I will try to record. This is on a 1.0 box(had a power cord with a reset switch on it) and I had the DVD dongle in the 4th port. Strange.

does it do this only to this game ? try running anoter game or disc or any regular media that your xbox would normaly read .
try anoter dvd drive and if that is fixed using anoter drive then the current drive is no longer an xbox funtional drive
as nknave explained this is what it would say on a regular home dvd palyer or pc dvd drive.
a small chance is that the current disc your using is soo phisicaly damage that your drive reads the layer that ms settings out to in. like for example...
pc drives will read xbox games from center or inside of disc to out of the disc , that is why it wont reconise it as a game but as the video that says " this is a xbox game put on xbox to play "
so what im trying to say is that your disc maybe soo damage that your xbox is reading that layer insted of what it should normaly read .

The disc itself is in immaculate condition. I have tried it on 2 other xboxs with no problems(as well as countless others, this is my softmod splinter cell).
The drive itself won't read anything. my brother in law said that if he tilts the front upwards he can get the xbox to read, but it takes some time. I think the drive need to be replaced.
I assume only another xbox dvd drive will work? Even is any PC drive will work, I guess you would need a "Y" power splitter as well.

I got that message last night while installing a new hard drive. After I was complete I put the new drive in the XBOX but forgot to plug in the data cord. Stupid mistake on my part but you might check it out. I plugged it up and works great now.
